The place would send you back in time where you can experience the feeling and how people used to live and work. Its nice touch for back in time. You have to pay for entrance. However, I did not knew that after 5pm, you can enter free where shops will be closed. If you wanna visit shops then you will need to before 5pm which you will need to pay for entrance.
The employee (bloke) on till for tickets did not stated that after 5pm you can enter from different entrance which is free, as I entered around 4:45pm and I still paid for it. It was just not a good informative from the employee.
However, overall the experience was good with building architecture.

We really liked to remember the years of our childhood: 1971-1980. Beautiful memories of modest but very good people! A place to see!

The old town takes you through most of the Danish history showing how the Danes lived and worked in different centuries, some of them for a rather long time ago. But the most impressive for me was the time from my own childhood and youth, the 60’s and the 70’s. The radio shop did make and huge impression on me, seeing all the (at that time) expensive Hi-Fi and TV sets, costing more than on or two months wages, and still able to fail on a rate today’s equipment don’t.

The Botanical Gardens are in the Old Town in Aarthus, right next to the Open Air Museum, which I did not go through. The gardens, and the whole little town was a lovely walk and very serene. They have a nice, smaller, free, informative, not well publicized Viking museum, as well, if you don't have that much time. There were no facilities to leave a donation at the Botanical Gardens which were also free; but they asked me to mention them on tripadvisor. I returned the beginning of June; and sorry to them, that I'm late getting to this. They had two lovely arboretums with an educational component. A quote "Gardens heal the tortured soul." and a tree house (that even we adults can go up to) or climbing platform, which the kids would love.

This place is a must. You can walk through centuries of danish history recreated to the detail. The village is made from buildings that were brought from other places, stone by stone and then put together in this amazing museum town.

I didn’t expect much but I was pretty impressed how detailed and good this open air museum is. I’m glad we visited it. You should take time and explore the whole place

Old town Aarhus invited our walking its cobblestone streets and side walks Clean and well preserved the businesses are active but maintain the architecture. The old churches are active with busy Sunday seervices. WE wandered seeking a sense of this small harbor city which is the second largest in Denmark.
Although a real city the old town sustains a sense of small community. There are several pedstrian only wlakways and traffic is driected away from the limited tourists.
