About
The house of shadow was made to accommodate shadow artworks. In the convention hall you can you can see sculptures made from trash, which when appropriately light, they produce recognizable shadow forms.

Very nice little exhibition of the artist's works in which he creates faces, figures, scenes, visual illusions out of scrap and various materials. He will explain the highlights or things you might have missed while looking " at the shadows". He asks for a mere 2 EUR donation (but only if you liked it). Please visit and support this amazing little place!

What an unexpected experience when visiting the town of Xanthi! With everything closed because of COVID, I was invited in to the House of Shadows by the grand master himself! And his creations are a revelation. A complete eye opener, and I was transformed into a prisoner in Plato’s cave for an hour and enjoyed every minute of it. Mr Vaitsis takes his time to explain all his works with passion. Meeting a fellow artist with such a degree of turning discarded objects into magic left me baffled. It was an honour to meet him and his creations. If you are in Xanthis, go visit his place. If you are in Greece, go to Xanthis and experience how art can improve the world by making you see what’s projected by the simple things around you!

Stopped into this small museum located in Xanthi’s charming historic neighborhood. Upon arrival, I had no idea what type of art exhibit I would be seeing until one of the young ladies who worked there gave me a brief explanation. WOW!!! I have never, ever seen such an original, thought provoking art exhibition in my life! (I grew up in New York City and have seen my fair share of art and museums, not to mention having traveled the world visiting countless museums and art galleries, so this statement is really saying a lot). I will not even attempt to describe this exhibition, but simply say that one must go to appreciate this unique art. A bonus was meeting the artist and having him explain several of the pieces (with emphasis on the kinetic piece). Super nice guy and a great staff.

If you ever find yourself in the beautiful city of Xanthi, don't miss the chance to visit this amazing place! This kind of art is so creative and original, I've never seen anything similar to this before! You don't have to be an art enthousiast in order to enjoy it; personally I'm not the kind of person to roam the galleries every time I visit a new city, but this exhibition really amazed me!
A really big advantage is that the artist is there most of the times, if not always, in order to guide the visitors. He's very polite and welcoming, he helps you see the details you'd otherwise ignore and reveals the ideas behind his works!
The exhibition is hosted in a relatively small space and as far as I can remember our visit lasted about 30-40 minutes. The "exit fee" (because we paid in the end and not in the beginning of the tour) was just 2 euros: totally worth it, without a second thought!

This tiny little place is somewhat like Alice in the wonderland!
To my mind, the artist behind these sculptures must be a genius to be able to imagine the exact shadow that will come out after illuminating the objects he made!
And in some cases, you could see different scenes from different angles of the same object!
I felt simply amazed and in awe with every new exposition object I was discovering!
Very kind and smiling keeper, the wife of the sculptor, an artist herself too.
Surely worth a visit if you are in Xanthi, don't miss it. It will take you less than 30 min to see it all.

Wonderful pieces of art. If you are lucky the creator will be there to explain their meaning to you, which is what makes them great, after all.

I am not an expert on art. But I know that the shadow creations are very well done, both from an artistic and a technical perspective. It is not a massive gallery, rather a small three room exhibition, and the owner/artist happily explains how he works and what the meaning is of each piece of work.
I cannot imagine one would ever regret coming to see the House of Shadow!!!!
