We have walked to the monastery a few years ago and decided to do it again. We didn't time the walk as time didn't matter but it is a reasonably easy walk on a well made path until near the entrance to the monastery grounds...More

I started walking at 9 and was back in town by 11. It is a nice walk up, a lot of the paths are being done up and are in a good state. The last 100 meters is probably the worst as this is along...More

My wife and I rode horses up here with Harriets Horses. Otherwise it would have been a long, hot hike. The mostly paved and cobblestone trail is in good condition for the majority of the route. The view from the top is beautiful. We met...More

The place is friendly for visitors. As you go through the door on the left there is a little shop where you can buy the local produce as well as refill your bottle with fresh, cold water and take a Greek sweet. If you are...More

This is a nice but challenging hike, takes about 2 hours from Hydra Town. Once you get out of town (get directions from a local!) you can't get lost, follow the yellow and green flags and sign for Profit Ilias monastery. Bring water and wear...More

Cobbled hillside switchbacks will lead you from town to this quaint monastery that offers stunning views—and a place to refill your water bottle. This is a long but not strenuous hike—anybody who can walk a few miles can handle it. Kids, too. If you're ambitious...More

This is one of those gems you find if you take one of the multi-island boat rides. The monastery and its displays were very interesting and worth seeing. The entire island of Hydra is an experience that we will not forget. Especially the fact that...More

Woke up early and the Norwegian crew in the Catermeran asked us to join them on a 1.9 km walk up the mountain to the monastery. It was a perfect day and we still had the cool morning air while hiking up-to the top. From...More

After a tiresome hike in the sun, which takes you through many houses along the mountain and also a beautiful church, we reached the monastery. The panoramic views from atop were spectacular.

Walk up from Idra is steep and can be hot, bring lots of water. Terrific views from bell tower. Small peek into life in a Monastery. Try to go earlier in the morning to beat the heat.
