Being a bit of an ancient history buff I just had to visit Sparta. This statue is of their King, Leonidas and is right at the end of the town and only about 5 minutes from the ancient part of Sparta.

It's a statue of LEONIDAS!! It's awesome, go see it. There is an inscription in Greek and not a lot for the English speaker. You won't less a lot by seeing this from any signs, it's just simply an see inspiring statue that should be...More

End of the day, it’s just a statue/monument but it’s pretty cool to check out. There is parking on both sides and it’s only a 5 minute walk from Ancient Sparta

There is nothing of the ancient city here, the statue is a memorial but really not worth going out of your way to see. Worth about 10 minutes to stretch your legs. You can look across the valley to the hilks where the people moved...More

Huge monument, statue of King Leonidas infront of the soccer stadium. The avenue which is going towards the monument was decorated with flags from the countries participants of Spartatlon.

On the occasions i visited Sparta I made it a point to visit the Leonidas Monument arguably the most heroic figure in Greek history both ancient and modern. It was this man who lead 7,000 Greek warriors of who 300 of them where Spartans and...More

It is just a statue in town. A very good statue, but I not worth travelling to Sparta just to see it. Great for a photo.

You've seen the movies you've read the books. This is where it all began. Plan to visit for the Spartathon. We missed out by a day. A non stop race to run from Athens to Sparta...
