Lovely ancient town and ruins. 2 parts, lower and upper. 12 euros gets you in to both. Drive to upper. Takes at least 20 to 30 mins to walk up to the castle.

This is a gem. We explored this abandoned Byzantine town. My kids loved it! I loved the old frescoes in the churches. There are a lot of uneven steps and it's a good work out. It was not crowded. The palace is closed for renovations.

Mystra is an old ruined city with several lovely Byzantine churches. The best time to go is in early spring when the wild flowers are stunning and there are fewer visitors. We were there thirty years ago and it was heavenly. Don't miss this lovely...More

The Byzantine period churches of this ruined town have been restored, and some original frescoes are visible, though sometimes hard to see in dim light, and more damaged than guidebook photos & postcards suggest. If you have limited energy, time or knee cartilage, don't bother...More
