With hindsight, we wish we skipped the archaeological site and gone directly to museum. By the time we rushed thru the site itself and got to the museum there were long lines-apparently they limit the number inside. Line moved very slowly.

On a timed tour without a specific guide, it would be difficult to have sufficient time to see the museum and the site,

I visited the museum prior to going to the archaeological site, and was pleasantly surprised at how good the museum is. I had come from Athens and done the big museums there, so this was much smaller, however I thought the artifacts and displays were excellently done and just as interesting, if not more. When I arrived, I mistakenly thought that this museum was going to be about the history of the Olympic Games, but it was about the archaeology and history of the site. I loved the weaponry and armour displays, as well as the pediment reconstructions.

One of the best put together museum of Greek artifacts that we visited. There was plenty of information in English so that we could understand what we were looking at. Well laid out in chronological order. Small museum shop but a great deal on postcards and some children's books in many languages to take home.

Wonderful museum which really put Olympia into context. The displays are extremely well organised and the explanation boards have just the right amount of information.

After your visit ask your driver to take you to Bacchus in Ancient Pisa (Miraka) for something to eat. Family run Greek tavern with stunning views.

We visited many museums while in Greece, but we felt this was one of the best. It was well organized and well signed.

We spent about an hour here with our guide after visiting the archeological site the first thing in the morning. There is so much to see; so many artifacts, so much weaponry and armor, and so many statues, that it could be overwhelming. The fact that it is organized into a series of rooms makes it manageable.

Our local guide added immensely to the experience.

It's the best archaeological site museum of the ones I've seen in Greece (with that of Delphi a distant second). A modern building with spacious rooms and good lighting and a well-structured exhibition. The collection of bronzes alone is a good reason to visit: starting with Assyrian bronze sheets, a clear evidence of commercial ties to Mesopotamia, to figurines, tripods, cauldrons from Mycenaean, Geometric, Archaic periods from various parts of Greece. Great statuary, friezes from the Temple of Zeus, Hermes by Praxiteles, etc. Included in the price of the entry ticket.

The museum had a lot of well preserved relics of ancient Greece. Most of the statues wee nit in good condition but the artifacts were fantastic. Lotsa military armor and a good sense of how it was used. What was really interesting was their use of glass which we had no idea of. Absolutely well worth the visit.

While on vacation in Greece, we spent 2 days in Olympia, and a morning at the Archeological Museum and historic site. We had a local guide (which is highly recommended) who gave us a great overview of the history of the site and a room by room review of the major pieces and the stories behind them. Without a guide, it can still be very informative but take more time, having to read each of the "boards" in each room. Either way, definitely worth the visit!

um and archeological site are amazing. The ruins are not as well preserved as other Greek sites but still work the visit. Expensive to get in though. 12 euros for adults. What a brilliant little museum. Set up by a philanthropist and costing nothing to enter (there is a donation box) this is a little gem. It covers many of the extraordinary inventions he created and explains them in English as well as Greek. The models are fabulous and there are interactive sections for kids. Really great!

The museum is awesome, hands down in the top 3 archaeological museums in Greece.
However the museum stuff is not. They are unprofessional to say the least. They dial and receive calls on their cell phones (ringer on!), talking loud about personal matters. One even had a hands'free speaker hidden under her covid mask! Ridiculous, completely disrespectful and not worthy to the amazing site that is Ancient Olumpia
