In the island of Lemnos you can find an abundance of sandy beaches, a lot of greenery, a salt lake and ... a real desert. "Amoothines", i.e. sand dunes, is a real desert located in the inland of Lemnos. It really worth the effort and...More

They say that this is the only desert in Europe. I'm not sure about that, but it is a small desert definitely. If you have tried sand boarding, than you can have a great fun. I haven't seen that anyone is doing tours with boards...More

of course the access to the sandy dunes of Limnos is a bit difficult, the whole effort is worth to try. Early in the morning is the best time since it's not too hot. So you can walk barefoot across the sand and let the...More

I heard positive and negative things for this place from local mainly due to the nasty dirt road until you reach the place. Well it worth to see it, just not as much as I was imagining. After the asphalt stop (quite far from the...More

Looks like a very big beach without water nearby. Very small actually. Could be missed by the way. Not so worthy.

Tucked away in the hills, the Limnian sand dunes are wondrously unique. After driving through miles of Mediterranean scrub, the road dead-ends at the dunes. They see vast and empty, but if you look closely they are full of life - just like the world's...More

It is a small area covered by sand with an interesting fauna. You can stroll around there for 30 minutes or so max. You could combine it with spending some time at Gomati beach. The streets are not paved but ok.
