A really pleasant surprise! The small canteen/restaurant made great food, mixing up fresh patties while we watched when they ran out. The church is just amazing, to see a unique carved wooden iconostasis like that in its original church, in a cave, is quite special....More

The story here is of the woman who cried and had milk for tears. That's why they call it Agio Galas. Galas is the Greek word for milk

Agio Galas literally means Holy milk. It is a traditional mountain village sixty kilometers northwest of Chios town. Of great importance is the Byzantine church of Panagia i Agiogalousena built under the village at the entrance of a cave. Highly recommended to visit the church....More
