Almost 31 kms north of Chios, taking the way to Volissos there is a sign on the right to the village Thiefha (Διευχά).
You drive through the village in a peaceful route and at the end of it you'll find yourself in front of the monastery.
The church belongs to the type of single barrel-vaulted basilica and it was first renovated in 1574 AD.
Its history has passed through glory, eminent men of the island, destructive earthquakes and finally destroyed by Turks in 1822.
There are plenty of buildings near the monastery which unfortunately are ruined and were used as library, monks' cells and apothekes.
There are very intersting hagiographies inside but you'll have to find the man who keeps the key to open the church first.
The view to the west side of the island from a 300 m. height is beautiful and even if you don't manage to visit the main church inside you'll surely enjoy the visit to this lonely and peaceful spot of the northern Chios.
The monastery celebrates St. John the Baptist on August 29th.
