This was a bit disappointing. It is an old prison and a rather nasty one at that. There is not a lot so see than the view. One has to remember that this was a place where people were imprisoned, brutally tortured and executed. They mention it but they dont really explain what went on. Fantastic views of the city and bay.

This could be so much better! The place is poorly marked and maintained. About a third of the walls are accessible. No explanation or marking inside. Even the small museum is almost hidden and part of the explanations are in Greek only. For the price (expensive by Greek standards) this is really poor and badly managed.

Worth a visit for the view alone. The castle and walls are a significant part of the cities history. A taxi can take you to the castle and it is all Downhill from there. The admission ( under 25s go free) also covers the tower below. Well worth the fee.

The location of the fortress is very good, the site is interesting but the place is poorly marked and maintained. Only part of the walls are accessible. No marking inside. Even the small museum is almost hidden and part of the explanations are in Greek only. Views are beautiful.

if you are interested of the city's history and architecture you will for sure end up to the Eptapyrgio. Fullview of Thesalloniki and Thermaikos from above and must for solo or not photos. Last but not least, closeby there are some cool and very good places to sit and enjoy greek tastes.

The most amazing part is the view from the tower. You can see almost the entire city and the port from above. The castle is not that impressive, there is only one room with an exhibition from the period when it was used as a prison. Apart from the "museum" visitors also can take a look inside a few empty prison cells.
For visitors under 24 and over 65 yeas traveling from EU country the entrance is free, for the rest, the entrance fee is 6 euros/person.
The area where the castle is located is beautiful as its the old part of the city. We took the bus 24 up and down to/from the castle but I can tell even seeing it from the bus that this area is worth visiting.

Nice to walk around. You get some good views. It’s nothing amazing though but definitely a nice short trip. You can drive up and park for free right infront if the fort.

What is especial from this place is a wonderful view to Thess Downtown. But...you have to be in quite good physical condition to get there on foot. Otherwise, you should take the bus 22 or 23 (city bus, price 1 Euro per person) or touristic bus 50( departure from White Tower, price 2 Euro) or on- hop red bus double decker (departure from White Tower on the coast, price 10 Eur per person). So... when you finally arrived there, the view is yours. But...the best time for take photos (sunny day for sure is obvious!) is early in the morning due to sun that look directly to your camera lens after 11 a.m. There is two steps for visiting, first one is lookout point and the other one...more hicking... is Eptapyrgio,or some kind of castle with 7(???)towers...epta means 7 but there is no 7 exactly :-) ...The castle has changed more uses during its history, the last one was prison. In time we get there the doors was locked, but we met kind guide from small office-house in front of the entrance and we were told a few facts about the history of the place (there is the infoplate with short story about) .
On our way back, we sat down to sunbathe on the lower lookout.. and go up again to the bus station..(Agion Anargiron Square near Church of St. Anargyroi Eptapyrgiou)
