This is the main Archeological Museum in Northern Greece and, understandably, most of the exhibits are of Ancient Macedonia. After all Thessaloniki, the Capital of Macedonia, was founder by King Cassander of Macedonia and given the name of the half sister of Alexander the Great.

I visited many museums all over the world. This one is not the biggest one and the collection is not the most known one but it is the best one to discover the beauty and richness of the Macedonian region. And if you are honnest you will see and understand that Macedonians were indeed part of the ancient Greek culture.

There's some pretty good stuff here from Macedonia and ancient Greece. It's well laid out and well marked. There's a moving exhibition on the bottom floor of people evicted during the population exchange with Turkey. It has parts of what may be the oldest book in the world!

Levels, progression, and lighting making this a wonderful building to experience. The permanent exhibits seemed repetitive. The special exhibit gallery was not open. I recommend the cafe--had an excellent sandwich--sit outside or in.

It is interesting place where cultures and history meet. This museum is trying to show the border between macedonian and greek cultures. But if it is succeeding in this, you can see by yourself

This is a nicely planned museum and easy to view and very informative. They also have a nice cafe where you can eat in or outside. We liked the service and food.

The Archaeological Museum of Thessaloniki is a must see attraction, given that it gives a story-telling of the ancient roots of this city. The exhibits range from the commonly-displayed in other museums arhaic, classical, hellenistic and roman artifacts to unique ones coming from Vergina the capital of Philip and Alexander the Great Kingdom. The latter are unique, since they cannot... More
