    Great church
We were here as part of a group tour in September 2022 and this place is definitely worth a visit. The outside is quite ornate and the inside is worth a look. We didn't have long there so only had time to take a few photos, see the altar and the memorials before we had to head out. Hopefully you'd have a bit more time to see things as there's a lot here.

    Worthwhile stop
We really enjoyed our afternoon here. It is amazing to read and learn the history of this landmark site. The info was available in English and was very informative and interesting. Highly recommend adding this stop to your trip.

    Church of Saint Dimitrios
An amazing renovated church from 14 century. I visited it on the third day of my 5 days trip to Thessaloniki. It is high church. It has an amazing freskos. I can see the crypt of Saint Dimitrios. In it I saw fragments from the earliest church variety.

Wonderful church with small museum like area in the catacombs with no entry fee. Visited twice during recent visit to Thessaloniki. If possible visit during the week, as it was very busy during the weekend. Definitely worth a visit!

This church is free to enter and is busy with locals in prayer. The entrance is raised off the road and was occupied by families chatting and small children playing.

Inside the church you are greater by a mid sized church that contains the relics of minimum of two saints including Saint Dimitrios. As an active church this gives a greater feeling or the religious community and enables you to experience more than just a building.

Marvelous church in the middle of the city. This church is free to enter and it is usually busy with locals in prayer. You feel that you can see into locals life, how they live their life. Amazing inside. Even small kids were really amazed by the church and enjoyed roaming around the downstairs crypt. It's a must-see when you go to Thessaloniki.

Aside from the Agia Sophia Church which is about two blocks to the south, this church is a wonderful example of Romano-Byzantine architecture.

The catacomb/crypt is at the rear of the church on the right hand side, its entrance is not very visible so keep your eyes out. The catacombs are displayed like a museum with information panels and late Roman remains/artefacts.

The church itself is free to enter and is wheelchair accessible, however the crypt/catacombs are not friendly with people who have mobility issues

Beautiful church with amazing art on the wall. When you go into the church it is enormous huge inside and beatiful at the same time. There is a basement beyond a chirch which is historically important, and there is a place where St Demetries was killed. Absolutely recommending everyone to visit this if you are staying at Thessalonikki.

Largest church in Thessaloniki dedicated to the patron of the city.
Lots of religious believers are visiting and paying respect in the church.
It is both a religious & a historical place.
Worth to spend some time and check the icons, walls ...

The subterranean area is well worth a visit, there is a well there where the body of St Demetrious was thrown. It is reputed that a strong scent of myrhh afterwards emanated from the well. The water from the well has been diverted to the upper part of the church, where tourists can fill bottles of water which is said to have healing properties. I enclose a photo of this water source, which is found in the church
