Imaret is not only the most unique place of Kavala but also a luxurious hotel. They offer tours every hour from 10:00 to 15:30 and the ticket cost €8 but it's worth more. The guide was perfect and tell us a lot of thinks about the history of the hotel.

Imaret is the most luxurious hotel of Kavala and it also has historical value. They offer tours every few hours for tourists and locals to get a sneak peak of the architecture. There’s also an upscale coffee shop/restaurant inside that you can visit.

The Kavala Imaret contains a total of two medreses (seminaries), two dershane-mescit (large domed prayer rooms), a maktab (an elementary school for boys), an Imaret (soup kitchen and home for the poor regardless of religion) and the offices of the management.
From the end of 1922 the spaces of the Imaret were used to house refugees. Later, it was converted into a museum, cafeteria and restaurant. In 2001, the Egyptian state gave it to a private entrepreneur so it could be fully restored and converted into a luxury hotel.

This was my second visit (or "attempt to visit" should I say?) to Imaret. The first one was 3 years ago and this one just two weeks ago.

A friend had recommended and the first time I had been there was for a cup of Greek coffee with a nice view of Kavala.

The second time though, as a waiter saw us (two people) entering through the door, walked towards us blocking our way. We said "We're here for some coffee.", which was followed by his fake look inside and his reply, "The place is full". Both from the glass door and the look on his face, you could easily see that was not the fact bu he just hadn't liked our looks. This was the one and only time I was (and we were) refused to enter any café or restaurant.

I honestly haven't seen the slightest bit of that "high class philoxenia" previously mentioned by someone else. As you'll see from some other people's reviews, they just simply do not like "guests" not staying at Imaret hotel. Don't bother.

I spent some time there with my girlfriend. We did not stay at the hotel, however, we had a chance to taste the restaurant. Oh my! The setting was arranged pleasingly, relaxing music and great cuisine. We had another dinner next day - that's how delicious the food was! Very well stuffed - waiters knew exactly how to satisfy even the most difficult customer.
Highly recommended.

Stay in the hotel, enroll for a guided tour or just sit down for a drink in the beautiful bar with stunning views: this is certainly a chique place that shows how Greece values its Ottoman past.

We did a guided tour for € 5 per person. Interesting history, beautifully preserved with stunning views. Perfect combination between old and new. We got to see a suite and the hamam where I would have liked to stay for the day. After the tour we had a coffee in the café with amazing views. Was worth it.

I liked the view and the luxury but the service was slow and the decoration was too much.Recomended on winter.

With a small amount of money a very helpful person guides you to the building and its history. It is very romantic and worth a visit. After the tour we had our coffee which was very nicely served. I small company on the other side had tea which was exciting because the service combines some character of the last century.
Very nice experience!!!
