About
This beautiful offshore islet in Laganas Bay is best known as a breeding ground for loggerhead sea turtles. Also known as Turtle Island (it's even shaped like a turtle!), you can take a cruise or glass-bottom boat tour to try to spot these endangered creatures swimming in the water. The beach in the north is the turtle nesting ground and mostly cordoned off, though there is a small area where boats stop and some suntanning and swimming are allowed. There are also sea caves in the south of the island where travelers can swim and snorkel. – Tripadvisor

It's difficult and frankly unsafe to swim here as boars are always zipping on and offshore and it can be very frightening. Beach is overcrowded with an overpriced snack boat moored up. I'm sorry this sounds so miserable but I was genuinely disappointed. More turtle nests and quieter beach at Kalamaki

My tour was conducted by TUI so other tour operators may vary.

Due to covid 19 TUI requested that you wear a mask. Even if you are outside on the top deck. This is greek law rather than TUI's doing but they didn't actually tell me this when we booked the tour. Had they told me this beforehand we would not have booked.

Despite the annoyance of having to wear a mask for 3/4 of the trip the boat ride was pleasant and as the tour isnt operating at full capacity there is a lot of space.

The first swim stop was OK off marathonisi island. There were lots of fish and cool caves to explore.

The second swim stop seemed a bit pointless and I felt a bit like a school kid being told we weren't allowed to swim more then 50m away from the boat despite being a very strong swimmer.

The lunch stop at kerri was also silly. Despite being told we had an hour we were told to be back in 50 mins to make sure the boat didn't leave without us. The boat started to blast the horn after 45 mins so we barely had time to have lunch before we had to rush back.

Turtle hunting went well but you only really see their heads for 2 seconds a time but I was OK with that but I know others might not be. Social distancing goes out the window when a turtle appears.

Do I think this trip was value for money? No 36 quid each seems steep for a day out wearing and uncomfortable mask.

Visited Marathonisi and the waters close to the island, saw a turtle, also got it on video. Very nice experience, of nature and how it really is. Got impressed by the Greeks and how they protect the turtles and the turtle nests on the island. The nests are surounded by signs and if youf try to break the perimeter, they immediatly get alarmed. You can get there by speedboat taxi, they have beverages and food on the island, on mobile floating stores.

A bad beach packed with boats and humans. I presume that outside of the peak summer season, it could be better. Could. Swimming there has 0 value, of course the smart turtles are awaiting far away that the beach becomes theirs again to come.
Pure waste of time. Was thinking when we arrived there what the boat skipper were really thinking about the tourists there and the real value of this place.
Would visit again far outside of the season, should give a totally different feeling, otherwise not recommended at all!

Nice beach, although small because the middle is a protected turtle nesting ground. Rather stony, so good to bring swimming shoes. Also bring you own parasol as there are NO shady places and none for lease. Weirdly there were also no rubbish bins, so bring a bag and take the trash with you. Did a nice snorkeling trip in the shallow waters, saw no turtles here though. We took a water taxi there from the Port of Agios Sostis for 10 euro each. Very crowded beach.

Rubbish, cigarette butte and plastic EVERYWHERE. I do not understand how this is suppose to be a protected area. This kind of tourism should be banned from this area.

Hoarded with tourists, British teenagers drinking beers from the boat bars.

If you do go, do your part and pick the rubbish before leaving.

A beautiful place just like the rest of Zakynthos but unfortunately due to over tourism it's been ruined. We hired a boat to ride over today as early as 9am. We were met with a busy beach which 70% had been cordoned off for the turtles. I'm very happy with the efforts to protect the turtles but the beach was absolutely littered with rubbish, from left over cans to cig butts. Please, if possible, appreciate this beauty from the beaches of the main island!

To be honest I expected more from that trip. We didn't go there to see the turtles but take a look around the island but the turtles are themain attraction. On the island you can be only at the beach where is about 3 meters strip of sand and pebbles so it's kinda fun to lay there with other milions of people at the same time of another boat trips. On the way back capitan saw a turtle so we were chasing the turtle to see it with other boats, poor turtle try to escape but everybody try to chase it. That was sad.

We were very hopeful going here on a group trip. A nice beautiful island, just of the cosy of the beautiful Zakynthos! But no…..

Yes it’s beautiful, but everything is beautiful on Zakynthos.

There is barely anything to do there. A big part was even closed from the public due to turtle eggs. (Maybe they could mark the turtle eggs instead of closing most of the accessible part of the island off..)

This left a very narrow strip of sand/beach for everyone to walk on, sunbath on and get a drink/snack. (And yes, because it is so touristy there are even ‘boat’ shops on the island.

There isn’t any shade either.

Despite the name we didn’t see any turtles swimming there. Don’t know if that’s normal or not.

Overall quite a disappointment, we were basically waiting for the boat to depart again.

I came here 10 years ago and also 8 years ago... its so sad to see the horrendous change. Rubbish, plastic, cigarette butts and glass bottles everywhere. Truly devastating. It used to be such a beautiful and peaceful place.
The whole island is ruined by tourism.

Poor turtles don't stand a chance.

They allow way too many boats to park at once now and nobody seems to bat an eyelid about the mass amount of mess.

It used to be one of my favourite places... so sad to see how humans have ruined this natural beauty.

Also if it is windy out , good luck! you won't see anything and are guaranteed sickness.
