A small stretch of sandy beach reached by driving over a causeway from Paxos . The water was calm and inviting we had a subbed practically in the sea and stayed swimming until 7pm . Pan and Theo’s taverna was great too , can recommend the grilled prawns and souvlaki !

This one of the only sandy beaches on the island although the sand is man-made. Situated 5kms south of Gaios it used to be an islet and is connected by a small, narrow bridge with the road to the bridge and parking located at the back of the beach. The views of the bay from the top of the hill are stunning. The beach is quite small and the sea bed shelves gently with very calm water so is safe and ideal for small children. The trees on the beach offer some shade and there is a taverna from which you can order food and drinks. The sunbeds to the right (looking out from the beach to sea) in front of the boat moorings are very quiet and you can watch the the yachts and small boats come in and moor up (some more successfully than others). There are better beaches on the island for swimming where the clarity of the water is significantly better.

I love it here. Mongonissi is a small sandy beach in s small bag just south of Gaios.
It has plenty of sunbeds on the beach which are free to use but you will be expected to use the taverna off the beach. Not a problem, as the waiters and waitresses come on to the beach to take your order. As well as Pan & Theo taverna there is Carnayo which has more of an Italian menu but also serves drinks and ices.
The beach itself does get busy as its not the biggest but also offers some should from the trees behind.
You can hire stand up paddle boards, kayaks and even a pedalo for €5 which gives you 30 minutes. I recommend stand up paddle boarding here as the bay is very calm.
The yachts also come her during the day so there is always lots going on. We'll be back next year!

Tuesday 13th September and we visited this Island which is the southern end of Paxos. It is located four kilometres south of Gaios and is linked to Paxos by a small low bridge.
The Island of Mongonissi and it's beach are considered to be a highlight and a place to visit in Paxos.
On the day we visited, we parked up by Ozias Beach, by the Early Christian Basilica of Ayia Marina and we walked across bridge, which measures ten metres in length and links Mongonissi to Paxos.
The nicest part was the picturesque bay which is flanked by Paxos on one side and Mongonissi on the other. The view was enhanced by a number of boats, of all shapes colours and sizes, moored up around it.
The man-made beach takes up practically one side of Island. There are two restaurants here, Carnayo Gold Lounge Café, this was closed at the the of our visit. The other one, Mongonissi Beach, was open and it appeared that beach and its facilities were for the benefit of it's guests.
Having walked along the beach and the harbour wall, we headed off along a pathway towards the other side of Island. This was rather a waste of time as we did not see a great deal. Most of the other side of the Island is not accessible as it is fenced off or private property or villas.
We are pleased that we can say we have been here and seen it, yes it is rather picturesque but would not rush back or want to spend a great deal of time here, sadly nothing special.

Taxi from Gaios cost 10 euros e/w. Beach is very small so get there early if you want beds. Beds were 5 euros each. Beach setting is beautiful, very shallow water and sandy. The taverna where you pay for the beds has had mixed reviews and I can see why......some staff were friendlier than others, we were served by a lovely girl however there were others including the owner just ignored us. My impression was they got their business too easily. Food however was very good. Yes I would return to the beach but not sure I would spend my money at the taverna maybe go to Carnayo Gold instead. My 5 stars are for the beach and setting 3 stars for taverna as attitude of some staff let it down.

Lucky for us, we were staying on the opposite side of the bay. We were determined not to be stuck going to the same places, but it was sooo good, we ended up using the Beach Bar as our pick up/drop off venue with the boats, meaning that we tried them for breakfast, lunch and dinner (many times) The menu is as you would expect, Greek, Italian & European, everything we tried was fresh, cooked to order and delivered with a great big smile. The drinks are extensive, cold and delivered quickly, the staff, all of whome, even angry looking Maria were great fun and served all day and amazed us by then performing the proper and traditional Greek dances most evenings, Theo, the owner, performs a lovely romantic dance which is well worth watching, be careful, they have a bad habit of dragging you up to join in, so if you're shy, sit at the back. Fantastic place, not fancy, but there to make sure you have a great time.

Although it's quite small, this beach, which slopes gently, is a good place for families.
Loungers are 2.50 for a day, but you can also use a table at the beachside taverna if you have drinks. Food at the taverna is very reasonably priced and they also have pedalos for hire. There's a daily bus service which leaves Gaios at 10.30 and returns at 5.30

If you want to sit and watch the boats coming into the bay whilst drinking your coffee then this is the place to come.. It's tranquil and beautiful.. If you want to cool off then a swim in the clear turquoise sea is just lovely.. Can't think of anything better..

Having discovered this little gem of a bay a couple of years ago when we hired a boat we have returned each year since by boat and by car. For boats there is plenty of easy mooring and by car, although a steep driveway to get to the taverna and beach it's not that difficult. The taverna is really friendly and do good lunchtime food and there are free sunbeds on the small beach. The water is calm and very inviting with a very shallow edge ideal for young children. Mongonissi is always on our visits at least twice when we come to the island.

Does any one know if you can hire paddleboards for a number of days rather than by the hour from the beach ?

So sorry I didn’t see this before. I know nothing about yachts I’m afraid do can’t help. We were staying at the hotel. Plenty of tact’s came and went with no problem.
