One of the island's oldest villages, and unquestionably it's best preserved. Visitors can get the best out of their visit with the Guide to Old Perithia which includes a self-guided 1 mile (2.5km) circular walk around the village (available at all good bookshops and the B&B in the village itself), if you come on a 'tour' don't expect to see much more than a quick look at a little of the village. There are 4-5 tavernas you can visit as it has visitors in the daytime, but to get a real feel of the village, do some research on its history, and spend time there walking around the whole village. Please park carefully, respect the local community, and please do not drop litter. Old Perithia is a Heritage Protected Site in a Designated Area of Natural Beauty. The village, 130 houses & 8 churches, One boutique bed & breakfast, The Merchant's House. The village has been slowly and sympathetically being brought back to life by the support of the b&b owners, Mark & Saskia

We go up to Old Perithia every year and it has become a staple of our itinerary. Enjoy a rarer view into the inland/mountainous areas of Corfu, soak up a bit of history and enjoy a refreshing home made ginger beer and walnut cake, maybe...More

Visited Old Perithia and Loutses Cave during a day driving in the hills. Old Perithia is like stepping back in time to simpler times in Corfu’s history. Very much worth even an uninformed wander round its collection of ruined, part ruined and restored buildings. There...More

I went up to Old Perithia twice, twice in the evenings, because like most drives on this island, the one up to this gem is a hairy ride (You do get used to it after a while!). As you travel up, any passengers (Anyone not...More

About a 20 minute drive off the main coastal road up into the hills. You can see the top of Mount Pantokrator once you are there. Interesting place to walk around.

Our lovely Sunvil rep, Katie, suggested we visit Old Perithia during our day in Kalami. We were a bit surprised at how long it took us to get there but, as always happens, it seemed really quick getting back. The road is narrow and windy...More

This was one of my favourite days out that I had in Corfu. It’s beautiful and so peaceful. We had lunch at a lovely little Taverna. It’s amazing to see all of the old buildings but sad to see how they’ve all been left to...More

Really trying to appreciate and feel the history about this ancient village - but it’s difficult. There’s not a lot to see. Although what’s there is beautifully positioned in the hills. There’s not a lot of information, access is difficult ( we were there in...More

Got here around 9am before the tours start and no one else on the roads. Pretty easy to get to after coming off the main roads. So peaceful here, the tarverna’s were only just opening as we got here, so stopped off somewhere else for...More

Very evocative and interesting - could do with more information boards, and discreet direction markers. A big plus are the cafes and restaurants that harmonise well with the other deserted buildings. Setting is beautiful

As a predominantly farming community, when tourism took off there was more, or easier, money to be made by the sea. Villagers generally owned 2 homes, New Perithia and in Old Perithia so the transission was easy... the... More
