Unfortunately, the mosque has fallen victim to deferred maintenance issues including a partially destroyed minaret that has fallen down onto the roof of the mosque. Caution is imperative when walking around the property. Inside the mosque is a small museum. Worth a quick visit when...More

When in Ioannina you have to visit the Ali Pasha mosque. The location beside the lake is stunning. The steps up to the mosque can be challenging, particularly for health and safety reasons, but of course keeping their authenticity is important. However, it really is...More

Interesting if you have never been in a mosque before. Not really that much to see but the dome is interesting with some of the original decorations remaining.

I gave this an excellent on my review of the Municipal (or Demotica) Museum. It is really an outstanding building and Erifilli, the woman on duty to take my ticket when I was there, was extremely helpful in providing information. This is a must-see museum.

The citadel in Ioannina has two redundant mosques; that of Aslan Pasha is the oldest. After the attempted revolt against the Ottoman Turks led by Dionysios Skylosophos was quelled with extreme prejudice, the Orthodox church of John the Baptist was razed and this mosque built...More
