This small mosque within the castle of Ioannina gives only a very small picture of the past times. It's a bare room with some colours in the walls.

The mosque' s name (Fethyie Camii) means "The Mosque of the Conquest" and is built on the site of a pre-existing Byzantine church (probably of the Byzantine cathedral of the city). The first mosque, one without a minaret, appeared in the place of the church shortly after the surrender of the city to the Ottomans in 1430. The current form of the mosque is the result of the renovations undertaken during the rule of Ali Pasha in the late 18th century. The mosque opened recently to the public and entrance to it is included in the admittance price for the nearby Byzantine museum. It includes a nice small exhibition about the rule of Ali Pasha and the city during his reign. Certainly worth a visit, if anything to just admire the interior of the building and its nicely decorated dome.

In the castle grounds this is so different to other structures and ruins that are left. A great picture moment with snow capped peaks in the background.

Named by Ali Pasha as the Conquest Mosque, architecture of the mosque is unique however not much information is provided in English compared to Greek.

Probably the best views overlooking Lake Pamvotis and the surrounding countryside can be had from this vantage point. The mosque itself is attractive and harkens back to a time long ago. Be sure to visit Ali Pasha’s grave located just beside the mosque (see the wrought iron fence surrounding the tomb).

The castle area was very peaceful at that time of the year. There is a lot of history and all the buildings are interesting.

.......but if you made a special visit you'd be disappointed. Some interesting carvings and decorations, but not much more.
