Sivota, Parga & Acheron River

2 reviews
One of the most beautiful, as well as known through the Greek mythology, points of Epirus, is Acheron river. There, we will learn the history of the river, in ancient Greece and the souls that crossed it with the boat of Charon to arrive to the underworld. Also we will visit Sivota, to explore the beautiful beaches that remembers you how the paradise looks.

We rented a pedal boat from Lichnos' beach (15€/hour) and we made it there in less than 15 minutes (we rented the boat from the left side of the beach, which is closer to the cave). Overall it was a great experience, it's a small cave and the pedal boat fits very easily if you want to go inside, but I'd recommend to visit it during a non wavy day because it might be dangerous as it has rocks on the sides of the entrance. The scenery surrounding the cave is very beautiful, so use the spare time to explore nearby.

Aphrodite's Cave is part of the Blue Caves assembly that the Ionian Blue Cruise from Parga was supposed to visit along with the islands of Paxos & Antipaxos. BUT we did NOT get there ALTHOUGH we asked passengers from the other cruises (like Captain Hook) and they DID. The crew explained that is was too wavy, but then WHY did others go? Moreover I was shocked by the ignorance of the other people who said nothing at all and seemed not care about having been lied to... and taken the money (20 Euros per person). Also, the boat is very dirty and unattended and the crew is far from being friendly with the tourists. To sum up, we left at 10 and until 17:40 when we got back (18:00 was the official arrival time but as we skipped the Blue Caves we got earlier) we spent the majority of the time on the boat which was very noisy and surrounded by a strong fuel smell wherever you would have chosen to sit. There was only a 30 minutes swim near a beach on Antipaxos and then more than 2 and a half hours in Paxos which I strongly believe it is beautiful in its entire sense, but as you can imagine you do not have enough time to visit anything remarkable around the island harbor. So, according to me the highlight of this excursion would have been the Blue Caves and I am very frustrated knowing that in the same day other did visit them along with other cruises and instead we gave them our money and were left with an unprofessional service.

Be careful with the Ionian Blue ship from Parga! We went in on a trip to Paxos-Antipaxos-Blue caves and the boat route skiped the blue caves blaming waves. It compleetly avoided antipaxos so you could not even see the caves from afar. Please be aware that you might be cheated on this boat. We asked the passengers from other boats from Parga and all of them visited the caves. I would advise anyone to go to the other ships to prevent wasting a day. For us the blue caves was the main reason for this trip.

...end all in the middle between grean and blue. Such a beautiful day. You have to do it! Paxos with little charming main village Giaos and Antipaxos with perfect Voutomni beach TIP: take boat name GIAOS, it is low enough that you cam came deep in the "blue cave"
