We had a great experience with the friendly lady Irene that gave a lot of information about the city and the history of the village. You really get in touch with the way the people live in Karpathos and the warmth and hospitality of the residents there. I would strongly recommend the trip to anyone who passes through Mikenes!

Mrs. Irene is amazing and funny guide, she knows everything and everybody in Karpathos. We enjoyed the excursion to the history of the island and Menetes. She took really great pics of us in nice locations around the village, showed us her house - I very recommend this.

Interesting and attractive. It gives you an idea of life in Karpathos before tourism! The lady at the Museum is wonderful!

The information and shown objects are very interesting, but the highlight is Irini herself. She will happily photograph you at the most romantic and interesting places. Don't hesitate to ask if you do not understand one or two things, in any case enjoy Irini's love of Karpathos' culture.

The museum itself is very small. BUT if you can get a personal tour from Irene, including a tour of her house, then its very worth an hour or two!

Amazing Museum, by the parking lot of Menetes Village.

Include beautiful old art, ancient equipment and many more.

Ask for Irene, your tour guide anywhere in the village or call her right away.

You will really enjoy her tour explaining all about the history, as well as other important info.

Thanks Irene

Very small and in urgent need of maintenance, but there is some interesting stuff there. The key is with a strange lady that gives you the tour in half Greek-half English, speaking very fast too. She is not unpleasant but certainly odd and it's not easy to enjoy the visit with her hurried explanations while she's pointing at things very fast (expect to leave a small tip).

When travelling by Greek ferry from Rhodes to Sita, Crete (or the reverse), consider spending time on the island of Karpathos. Once there take a day trip to the hill top village of Menetes to visit a remarkable traditional Karpathian home, the folk museum with some good displays, WW11 storage caves and the church of the Assumption of the Virgin. It is best to take the local bus in the morning from Pigadia up the hill to Menetes. Energetic Irene, the village volunteer tour guide meets that bus and she will have an informative, action packed tour for you (she speaks, English, Italian and Greek). Visit you wish to visit at other times, on arrival, drop into a cafe and ask someone to contact her. Thank you Irene!
The buses do not co-ordinate well for a return trip, I suggest you enjoy a break at the local café and that you walk back to Pigadia. Remember to buy / take water with you and wear a hat. Yes it is 8 km, however to sell it to you … it is down hill, you walk viewing some wonderfully scenery, time passes and you know everyone overeats on the fabulous Greek food so enjoy the exercise. We stayed at the Atlantis Hotel in Pigadia, July 2014.

My family and I went for a weekend in Karpathos Island. Following tripadvisor I planned on stopping at Menetes museum, sadly our flight arrive with a huge delay... We arrived to Menetes on the same day by 17:00 after the museum opening hours just to find the incredible Irene offering a tour in!!!
We got a taste of Karpathian history and culture. I strongly recommend you to plan a visit in her little museum you won't regret it!!
