Megalochori was a fantastic location for us . Quiet village with a small square where the best restaurants were Raki (tomatoe balls a favourite ) and Marmita The accommodation and overall service from Ducato was outstanding. The accommodation at villa Lo , an old school was absolutely superb . . Then we moved to Mansion 1878 , which was equally stunning , based in an old winery . In Megalochori, we hired a car for 3 days - cheapest ever at 30 euros and didn’t even need a credit card. We were also about five minutes from the most stunning. Views ever , on our last night we walked 5 minutes from the hotel and sat and watched the sunset with a glass of beer - the sunsets in Santorini are simply the best . We drove to Oia and watched the sunset , had a day And night in Fira Walking down the steps to the old port and then getting the cable car back up , went on a semi private Catomaran to red beach , white beach , the volcano island and had. Brilliant bbq , walked to pyrgos (worth finding the back path as per Julia Bradbury programme ) through the vineyards where we had a drink at the rosemary bar , and then Mezzi at Franco s watching the sunset , we went to the beach at Perrisa and then ate at Popeyes, and we loved going to Amoundi Bay , stunning location , with a walk just around the corner where you can watch or participate in cliff diving -the beauty of Santorini is quite simply stunning.

My friend and I were exploring Santorini via ATV and came across this village and decided to stop and wander around. We are sooo glad we did! We loved wandering the small walkways between homes and churches. We took so many pictures trying to capture the charm of the village! We also stopped in the main center and enjoyed some delicious snacks at the restaurant with the multi-colored tables and chairs. (Forgot name but food was awesome!) If you’re in the area and looking to explore a non-sea view town don’t skip this place! We loved it!

Loved this small little village, not so busy as Oia and other places. There are two parking places, one up a very steep hill on the north end of the village, lots of space. There is a donkey riding place close by. The walk down to the city centre is about 350m and the main plaza offers several good food options and wonderful icecream. The small shops are a lot cheaper than Oia. If we ever come back I would love to come here again. The atlantis experience is very close by too so I suggest a half day trip to beaches in the south, head to the village for lunch and go to the atlantis experience after that

Santorini has so much to offer as a holiday destination and it was lovely to find an authentic, traditional Greek village to wander around and grab a bite to eat. We drove through the village but would recommend parking at either the top or bottom car parks as the roads are extremely narrow and it felt wrong to be driving though it. This village is quintessentially Greek and definitely worth a visit (on foot!).

We walked from FIra to Megalochori, there is a bus but we decided to walk, it took us about 1.5 hours and wasn't too hilly and steep. Such a beautiful little village, we entered from behind the bakery on the main road through a car park and turned into a tiny tiny street. It is very traditionally Greek and only one of two tourists having a look around. We stopped for coffee at a little cafe and the locals were all very friendly. There is a bell tower that straddles the street and if you follow the road down you can go into some caves, these a e unlit so you'll need the torch on your phone! You eventually get to a little square with a few restaurants and jewelry shops, Take you time and look at the blue domed church and wonder the tiny side streets. Worth doing to get to see a traditional Santorini village.

My favourite village in Santorini. Small, hidden, quiet, not crowded and car-free. You better park outside the village because the roads are very very narrow. It is well kept, and while is not directly on the sea, there are some good views.
Lot of restaurant in the plaza but if you want a more traditional experience walk a bit further and look for the tavernas.
They are hidden but offer fantastic value.

We decided to visit the village because of the various positive reviews. The village has free parking at the top. Once you park you walk down a hill into the village where you will encounter some shops and restaurants. The village does not have any sea views so it did not temp me to stay for lunch. The longish climb back up to the car in the heat without a breeze was not real fun. Bring water because you will need it.

We found this little village accidentally as we were driving around the island with our quad.
Really deserves a stop !! Nice little streets to walk around, typical restaurants, less tourist than anywhere else.
If you want to enjoy a typical Greek ambiance and not crowdedness this is the place to come.

This village had been recommended by several people as a very pretty village and in truth it was but it was also very small! We parked the car and probably spent 45 minutes in the village walking the main street. There was a cave house advertised that we visited and saw the huge caves that tunneled into the hillside and were used as earthquake shelters. The main square with the church was pretty and there were the usual very narrow side streets but, even if I'd had space for a coffee, I'd have been pushed to spend an hour there.

This was a beautiful village. It was a lot quieter than Oia. I think my biggest regret about my time in Santorini was trying to do and see too much in one day. Our tour walked us through Megalochori and told us about it as we went, but we didn't have much time to explore, shop, or eat there. It is worth stopping and enjoying some time here.
