This hike has a good amount of ups and downs, but nothing this is unmanageable. Wear good hiking sneakers or hiking boots if you need ankle support since it is very rocky. This view at the top is well worth it!

We climbed Zas on a day when we were walking through and above the clouds. Views were pretty limited of the other Cyclades islands but looking down on the mountains and valleys of Naxos was worth it! The spring on the way up is a...More

If you find yourself in Naxos, you must do this! We got up at 4.30 and drove to the small church Aghia marina, parked and started the walk in the dark. We all thought at first we must be crazy! Thankfully we had iPhone torches...More

Wonderful place to walk and take in the beautiful views. And Aria Spring is a lovely place to relax - you will pass it on your way to the path for the summit

We took the 7:30 bus from Naxos town to agia marina and walked up mount says from there, returning to filoti for lunch. This was a total of 8.6km walking with 500m of climb. The top of the mountain is 1003m high, but the bus...More

Took the easier route up with 6 others, including some 70+ year old folk. We left very early in the morning, arrived at the base around 7am and made our way up. Some steep bits, but not too difficult. Easy if you're fit, some struggle...More

The views were amazing but be prepared for a very rocky climb. About 90 mins up 70mins down. You need good walking shoes and water, none is available onsite. Very rewarding for sure!

It takes about 120 mins to climb to the very top. Some parts are quite steep but we all managed. Even our two kids 9&13 made it. We didn’t see kids on our way just a goats. Some looked quite scary, fighting each other... Make...More

We started from Filoti after getting the bus from Naxos town. It starts on a road out of town until you get to a track that takes you to another road and then to Agia Marina church. This is where a lot of people start...More

It's not super easy to find right away but definitely take a car or quad bike to go there. We didn't do a full hiking trail but started at the bottom of the mountain trail which is shortly after Danakos. If you like a longer... More

What to Pack in a Carry-on for Island Hopping (0 Replies)
We will be in Naxos, Santorini, Ios next week (30 April-7 May) and want to limit the amount of luggage we are bringing to a carry-on & one backpack each. Given the projected weather does anyone have advice on exactly what clothing (# of pants, # of shirts, # of shorts, shoes, etc.) is optimal to maximize room in the carry-on (we are two men traveling)? We want to be as mobile as possible given we are taking ferries to the various islands, etc. We may do light hiking to Zas Mountain, etc....More

We go using the rule of thiree. Bring three of everything one for today one for tomorrow and one in the wash from yesterday. Make sure everything mixes and matches so you can combine the clothes for several different looks.

Getting to Zas Mountain from Naxos town (6 Replies)
We will be staying in Naxos town and would like to do a day trip to hike Zas Mountain. Is there a way for us to get there without renting a car? Are there any busses that can get us there and back? Any tips on where to start the hike? I've read about the church being an ideal starting point- how can we find this? Thank you!

And if you can't get a bus to the Agia Marina church then take a bus to Apeiranthos but get off the bus where it passes the road to Danakos (after Filoti) and walk the 15 – 20 minutes to the church. You can also take a bus to Filoti and walk from there. From Filoti there is a path up to the aforementioned road to the church. The path is pretty steep though. A few minutes after beginning the walk from the church you'll reach a building. Pass the building on its right side. Otherwise...More
