The whole history of the kouros is interesting. Naxos has some of the best marble in Greece and these huge statues were destined for temples but something went wrong and they have been left partially carved in the very place where they were carved. This is the best example I have seen.

Earthquakes, wars, and the passage of 26 centuries have reduced the surviving kouroi statues to a tiny fraction of their original number. So it’s ironic that this unfinished example has survived precisely because it was damaged in its making and rejected. 80 tons of marble still resting in the rocky bed which didn’t quite give it birth.
A testament not only to the art of those early sculptors, but to the industry and ingenuity needed to make and move these wonders.
Access is via a short flight of steps from the road - much easier to reach than the kouroi at Flerio.

There are 3 of these Kouros's to be found on Naxos.
Number 1 is just above a beautiful little fishing villages, ringed with restaurants.
See pictures with description of our adventures in the mountains, looking for the 3 Kouros. Have fun.
Rent a car, get out of tourist town, visit the villages in the mountains, create some life long memories.

If you are in the north of the island, that is to see. Located very close to the road, close to Apollonas, it is well signposted. Parking on the side of the road then about thirty steps and you arrived. This is not Apollo, there are no farms. On TripAdvisor the first pictures match the others concern another kouros in the center of the island.
