About
The traditional stone winery SAINT ANNA WINERY is located in Naxos and specifically in the lush village of Kato Potamia. At an altitude of 95 meters from the sea and only 7.5 kilometers from the country one can enjoy a wine experience and flavors of local traditional products. The winery produces wines from Cycladic varieties. Its name is derived from the church of Agia Anna located on the estate and is accessible because of its archaeological significance.

Saint Anna is one of few wineries on Naxos so it was our privilege to be shown around the estate and join in with some wine tasting. Manolis, who is only 26 and the most gracious host in the world, started working with his grandfather 15 years ago to make his childhood dream of running his own winery come true. He first took us onto the roof, where the grapes for the sweet wines are dried. We then moved on to the tiny chapel of Saint Anna, which is Manolis’ family church and one of the oldest on Naxos. And it’s not only wine that is produced here – we looked out over the olive trees and vegetable plot, from which the delicious food platter to accompany the wine had been put together.

We sampled eight different wines while Manolis explained the wine-making process. You really couldn’t find someone more passionate about their job and the fact that he single-handedly runs the winery (and finds time to put on tours) is both impressive and inspiring. He lives on the estate and even handed out his own jackets to people who were getting cold when the wind picked up! To end the night, we watched a slideshow of pictures and videos of the harvesting and distillation processes. A thoroughly enjoyable evening that we would recommend to everybody!

A great way to spend an afternoon in Naxos. Manolis showed us around his little on-site vinyard, and his vegetable and herb plots. A highlight besides the tasting was the 1200 year old chapel in his driveway (there is almost a chapel per house in the valley, it seemed).
Manolis gave a passionate walkthrough of his wine selection and (the short) history of his vinyard, while we were snacking from the tapas-like platter.
We bought some wine at the end (about €20-30 per bottle), and he offered to take us back to the city himself, so we did not have to order a taxi. Whether it was contingent on the purchase or not, I don’t really know.

In the tasting we were three couples and tasted five wines I believe.

We spent a very pleasant and informative two hours with Manolis at his lovely winery. He is a very impressive young man who has single-handedly built his business from scratch, producing eight varieties of wine with a passion and determination that defies belief. The location is beautiful, especially his 9th century family chapel surrounded by vines and olive trees. I would highly recommend a visit here to learn about and sample his wines whilst enjoying a platter of his lovely home-grown olives and tomatoes.

The winery stands in a nice area, the young owner is welcoming, although a beginner in wine making. Not much to learn from him nor from his wines - unless the white, other 4 wines have no interest. The real issue is the price: for 37€ per head you get much better food and wine in a tavern in Naxos. Half price and one hour instead of two would have make it more acceptable.

If you choose Naxos for your vacation I recommend you to visit the winery Saint Anna winery of Manolis Petrakis in Kato Potamia.
A specially designed space able to travel you to the exceptional flavors of wine, oil and olives accompanied by delicious appetizers made with passion and love by him with ingredients from his garden.
We bought a variety of wines as a gift for friends at very good prices and placed them in a wonderful wooden gift package that he suggested to us!
Ιt is worth your visit, I highly recommend it!!

St Anna vineyard is not only a tasting, it is an experience. You see the family's old, beautiful church, the olive trees, the garden, the grapes on the roof et c. Manolis told us bits of family history and how he, still a knee high lad, started making wine with his grand father. We learned new things about wine making as he told us about the process after which we got to taste the great wines this young man produces, singlehandedly. We especially fell for a dry white and the sweet red, as close to a Port as can be. He also has his own olives and oil, they were present among other things on the tasting's amazing goodie platter, together with the best-on-earth tomatoes. All that with the background music of Mikis Theodorakis. A couple of perfect hours in life ! Manolis, thank you ! We'll be back in a few years to taste the new reds you' be making, I bet they will be good, as well !

What a wonderful two hours we spent with Manolis. You get a short fifteen minute tour of the tiny Saint Anna chapel, the land and the distillery. Then you spend the time enjoying six of Manolis’ wines along with a lovely platter of food. Manolis has made his childhood dream of running this winery come true and he should be very proud of his efforts. We learnt so much about wine making and his life. The taxi from the coast is only about 15 minutes so book it and enjoy the wines!

Amazing wine, and the host was wonderful and funny. Great experience. We saw the production and tasted the home crafted wines which was full of flavor. He explained really clearly and his English was good and understandable.

This vineyard was recommended by the sommelier at Da Professore, and we were all gratified that we asked! The views and vineyard were beautiful, Emmanuel the host was gracious, informative and full of passion for winemaking and Naxos itself. The wines are delicious, and the charcuterie boards complemented the wines beautifully. This is one of the best wine tour/tastings that I have experienced and I cannot recommend enough!
