We've done a few private tours in our time with some fantastic guides and drivers - Crete, Delphi, Kefalonia, Kerkyra, Venezia, Roma, Paxos amongst them - but our 8-hour full day private tour of Naxos with Spyros might just top them all. So what makes this so special? Unlike other tours we've done on other islands, on Naxos you are able to cram an incredible amount into a single day without feeling rushed. Every half an hour there is something new to explore. The interior villages on Naxos are truly, exceptionally beautiful: Xalki, Apiranthos and Koronos simply do not disappoint. There is a smattering of genuinely interesting ancient history, Demeter's Temple and the Kouros marble statue the highlights on this trip; remember, the Sphinx of Naxos at Delphi tells us much about how powerful Naxos was in the era before the Peloponnesian War and brings to life the relics we see today (the iconic Portara included). The tour also includes a focus on the artistry of Naxian history: genuinely surprising pottery, a Kitron distillery, a family-run olive oil factory, all threaded together by this island's omnipresent marble in its varying states. Add to this one of the most satisfying Greek dining experiences imaginable, and you just have a recipe for the most magical day. So be warned: you will fall in love with Naxos if you choose to do this tour. Spyros himself is a Naxian through-and-through and a very interesting character, bringing together old-school Greek hospitality, local knowledge and networks, industriousness and inclusiveness. I finish by saying Spyros managed to pull all this off whilst juggling the unpredictable whims of our two young kids, and for this he must receive a special congratulations. Oh and value for money? We can say now with some authority that you probably won't find better value for money anywhere in Greece. This private tour comes with our highest recommendation. Well done Spyros, it was a memory we will cherish for years to come.
