Dedicated to Cretan heroes Aggelis, Manouil, Georgios and Nikolaos, who were martyred in 1824, this magnificent church is at the center of just about every Rethymno religious and cultural tradition event. Reconstructed in 1975, since the previous buildings had been destroyed, the church is a...More

After getting lost in the old town, I was given good directions to find The Four Martyrs Church. The outside is quite elegant, but inside it was rather dark. There were some fine frescos, and the dome was impressive, but overall I far preferred other...More

Stunningly beautiful church inside, With every part of the walls and ceiling covered in impressive paintings and iconography. Made me say WOW as I entered which is not like me! If you only visit one church in Rethymno then make it the Four Martyrs.

Situated just outside the gate of the Old Town, this for me was the most attractive and interesting church in Rethymnon. It is named after four Cretan men who refused to convert from Christianity to Islam under the Turks in 1824 and were executed just...More

I've seen magnificent churches in Italy, Spain, Austria, Poland and they all have that jaw dropping wow factor, but this church is much more understated and yet fantastic in its own way. The murals painted here in bright vibrant colours are very different to the...More

Stumbled upon this church whilst visiting the street market. After visiting many churches in Italy, Spain and Czech would say this ranks with some of the most breathtaking! Wonderful murals, chandeliers and a environment where you can capture a serene moment away from the hustle...More
