- RASERNALeon, Spain68 contributionsUrban beach with all services, spacious and with fine sandThis beach is close to the old town and has plenty of space to park the car nearby. It has all the services usually offered to tourists, such as showers, bathrooms, umbrellas and paid hammocks, bars, etc. When we went we found quite a few people enjoying a beach day, but we also had no feeling of overwhelm, as the beach is quite big. It is a pleasant beach, with fine sand, with acceptably clean water that we can enter without encountering a slope that causes us to see immediately with the water around our necks. It is a good complement to a cultural visit of the city.Visited July 2023Traveled with familyWritten July 12, 2024
- Leonie27 contributionsBeach section from the Noble CaféThe first day we were a bit disappointed with Rethymnon Beach. Overflow, loud, ... A day later we went a little further in the middle of the beach promenade and came across the Noble-Café with the associated beach section. The loungers are a bit more expensive at 16 € (2 loungers, 1 umbrella, 1 table), but in our opinion are completely worth it as they are clean, healing and comfortable. The service is impeccable. The atmosphere is very relaxed as the section is slightly smaller and quieter. Highly recommended.Visited August 2024Traveled with friendsWritten August 19, 2024
- dancomontrealMontreal, Canada378 contributionsBusy Fun Beach !The beach in this town is where its at , the typical vacation beach with so many people out on the beach in the water or just chillin under the many unbrella/ sunchairs that are available ! The umbrellas are either 5 Euro a set or FREE if you order 10 Euro from the bar/ restaurant which drinks and food are delivered right to your umbrella ! Nice gesture because some areas are charging 15-35 Euros a set ! Good food ! Excellent beach !Visited September 2024Traveled with familyWritten September 3, 2024
- JBG1Leicester, United Kingdom815 contributionsReally long sandy beach with good facilities and access.Been visiting Rethymnon now for six years and always walk the beach promenade every day as it is at least 3 mls long. Sand quality varies in different areas depending on those businesses with sunbed offers and the hotels who have licenced areas for their guests. Beach beds range from free or free when you buy a drink or refreshments to 5 euros a bed with umbrella. Easy access to most of the beach and sea. Nice and flat so good for those less able or those needing wheelchairs or pushchairs.Visited September 2024Traveled as a coupleWritten September 25, 2024

Before going to Rethymno for the first time, we read several reviews of the beach. Some weren’t so good but I’m pleased to say that our visit was fine.
You can walk to the beach from the old town - if it’s too hot , it’s €6 in a taxi.
We rented x2 loungers and umbrella for €9 for the day. The loungers were run by a nearby restaurant but there was no obligation to eat there or purchase anything (we didn’t).
It’s easy to get into the sea - which is warm compared to Spain. A few pebbles but nothing much. As for cleanliness- we’ll, it’s not spotless. There is a little little and a few twigs etc but it’s a city beach. I’ve seen worse in other countries. It’s not an issue really.
Plenty of bars and restaurants a ross the road. It’s safe to leave your stuff while you have lunch.
Enjoy

Much like other Greek beaches, perfectly fine with parasols, sunbeds and beach bars. You get what you expect if you have been to Greece before. Lying on the beach costs money if you want shade, we paid 8 Euro with a discount as we were hotel guests. There is everything from 20 - 0 with different counterclaims, otherwise you can always take a towel on the sand. Not very shallow like Alcudia or Agia Marina, the estuary has more or less pebbles depending on the waves.

We hadn’t really expected much out of a beach this close to the city, but it was quite long, well equipped, and clean. Parking (free) on the street is possible, but a more reliable way is to use the parking lot in the port area – just look for the pirate ship. Parking is not that expensive – starts at 1.70 euro for the first hour, then about half that for subsequent hours. Best to bring your own chairs/umbrellas unless you want to rent them from the many stands.

This was our third time here and it just gets better and better. This time our accommodation was just across the road from the beach so we used it loads.
Our activities start early morning through till well into the evening and it serves many purposes. Then just soaking up the Sun people use it for exercise, walking the dog, paddling or swimming and many, many more things.
Sun loungers with parasols are available to rent and many places allow you to use them free of charge if you buy food and drink there. The beach runs for miles so there are lots of bars, restaurants and shops to ensure you have enough provisions for the day.
It isn’t the nicest beach in the world but it is sandy and very entertaining!

The main reason I rated this beach low is because of the water, the waves were incredibly strong and the water did not calm all afternoon so we couldn’t really enjoy it as we didn’t feel safe. However there were plenty of sun beds and shade to lie in for an alright price and lots of places to eat/drink/shop nearby. It was quite busy though especially on the main road behind the beach and parking wasn’t the easiest either.

I was saying in Crete for a week, and we walked to the old town on the beach- amazing! There are loads of sun beads to relax on, but some are for hotel guests only, as some hotels have a private section of the beach to themselves. It’s a beautiful, very clean beach. The sand can get very hot, so make sure you wearing shoes when your on it! The beach is massive and stretches miles. Along the beach, there are things like jet skis and other water based activities that you can get up to as well! It’s lovely to spend a day there and I would recommend it :)

I was stay included two different places in town, both at different ends of the beach. Because of this, we used it a lot and loved our time there.
Although the beach is not the best sand in the world it is still very nice. There are lots of shops, bars and restaurants and the last named allow you to use their sun loungers for free if you eat and drink with them. Other places just let you rent them.
We used the beach for both relaxing and for long walks to get some exercise and work off some of the Excess. The sea is very gentle and safe for swimming and paddling.
The views from here to the old town were great so it has a lot going for it.

Paid parking nearby. Umbrellas to rent. Plenty of space. Sand. Toilets on far side, paid and so-so. A bar with all the drinks and pre-packaged sandwiches. Swimming in April already possible and popular. Kids enjoy the beach and request returning. Cafes and restaurants in reasonable walking distance.

Endless beach with sand and fine pebbles. As many sunbeds as you want and even without charge (at least where we went), just what you order. 13 km beach with warm waters. Surely Rethymnon is ideal for your summers

Large, clean, soft beach with chairs/umbrellas and water activities. Chairs are organized by umbrella color for the hotel/company that owns it. Our hotel stay included chairs/umbrellas. Food available through hotels or restaurants across the street from the beach.

booking for october...will there still be water sports available and are resturants still open as end of season,
Written December 28, 2017
The restaurants most probably will be open and some water sports. But I am almost certain that if it is in the second half of oct, things will be much more quieter. It will not be as warm as in Sept. But again, it depends on which part of Crete you are planning to visit. The big cities of Chania, Rethymnon or Heraklion would be more open than the smaller places.

Thinking of going to Rethymnon at the beginning of June 2107. we are sea lovers and would like somewhere that is near a good part of the beach. any advise would be great. also would the water be warm?
Written October 23, 2016
If you go to Rethymnon town you have the main beach of the town which has all the facilities,with sun beds,umbrellas,tables and catering facilities ;in fact it is a wide and long ,blue flag beach which can easily be reached from anywhere in Rethymnon ; in June the water is already pleasantly warm ;
