Golden sands, crystal clear water and lots of good tavernas all around. The beach was very clean and quiet, plus you have lots of sun beds to choose from.

A beatiful small beach, but it was unfortunately ruined by a really unpleasant lady that takes care of the sunbeds at the farest piece of the beach. So angry at approach and yells something in greece even if its really clear we are not locals,...More

This is a beautiful large clean beach. On the one side full of classic good Greek tavernas then on the ither side a canteen. Not bad for a visit maybe even more depending on how much time you have.

The beach is really beautiful. The water is so clear and the beach is surrounded with mountains. Half of the beach is private because of the Hapimag Resort. Anyway there are few really good restaurants located - so definetly worth for a visit. There is...More

We spend 3 hours here when we visited Preveli. It's the place where you can take a boat to go to visit Preveli beach and palms forest.

Have we got it right ? (10 Replies)
Hi This will be our fourth visit to Crete, and we want to plan it well, having tried to cover way too much ground on previous visits and failing miserably. This year we are trying to explore the western side of Crete, we are booking independent of travel companies and our tentative plans are as follows:- Gatwick to Hania Stay 5 nights in Hania to explore the city and as far west as Balos. 4 nights in Plakias as we love Damoni Beach, and to explore the South west, although Sougia may be...More

I can't help thinking that there is a lot of backtracking on the Rethymnon part - if you are going to Heraklion to see Knossos, and want to go to Matala, and you are flying back from Heraklion, why not stay your last couple of nights in Heraklion? Apart from that it looks great. You already say you love Plakias/Damnoni, so that is reson enought in itself for you to stay there. You could visit Sougia on a day trip from Chania to see if you like it - and if you do, stay there on visit number 5!
