40minutes from Rethymno and what a delightful little place.. white sand clear blue water, very clean. Some lovely places to eat too. Although we had stopped at a little Taverna on the way.. worth a visit for a beach trip..

I can't help thinking that there is a lot of backtracking on the Rethymnon part - if you are going to Heraklion to see Knossos, and want to go to Matala, and you are flying back from Heraklion, why not stay your last couple of nights in Heraklion? Apart from that it looks great. You already say you love Plakias/Damnoni, so that is reson enought in itself for you to stay there. You could visit Sougia on a day trip from Chania to see if you like it - and if you do, stay there on visit number 5!
