Two of our kids (ages 13 and 21) did the introduction to SCUBA session and thoroughly enjoyed it. It was great value for money - the safety session was thorough without being remotely hard work, then they had a long time underwater in the lovely bay of Vythos. We did a similar course in Colioure a few years ago, and this one was much, much more fun. We thoroughly recommend it!

My boyfriend and I are both PADI qualified and did two dives today with Paradise. It was nice enough. When we got there we were told we would be diving on the south coast of the island because the sea would be less choppy. Both dives were shore dives from a beach, one going down one side of the cove, one down the other. The equipment was all fine and the staff pleasant enough. The dives were ok, a few fish to look at, nothing particularly exciting but that's how it goes sometimes with diving. Our main issue was a lack of information from those who were due to be our divemasters/guides for the day. We had to ask where we were going (when I first asked, i was told 'south coast' and had to ask again for a bit more info on exactly where on the south coast!), and for pretty much any other information we needed. There was no pre-dive brief to speak of, no description of what we might see in terms of sealife, no reminders of any key issues. The guides were checking who was buddied up with who once we were in the water, which should have been established earlier. As far as I could tell, everyone on the dive was qualified but relatively inexperienced, which is totally fine but a pre-dive brief and establishing what would be helpful for people would have been good. Instead there was quite a lot of time lost at the beginning of the dive when some people seemed to be struggling to descend and various other issues. Although staff were checking how much air people had left, they seemed to want to still try and complete the dive at the shoreline, and in the end my boyfriend ran out of air and surfaced (which was fine from a safety point of view as we were close to the surface anyway, but still not ideal). On the second dive, there still wasn't a pre-dive brief and in fact we were all in the sea waiting to descend when the staff were discussing where exactly we would go, which definitely feels like something they should have established earlier! There was no post-dive brief after either. We were then driven back to Rethymno and we were told that they would prefer not to drive back via the dive centre so asked for us to pay in cash, rather than credit card. Not the end of the world but kind of annoying as it then used up all the cash we had and so we've had to withdraw more and be charged fees. Overall it was an ok experience but not well organised and kind of felt like they were 'phoning it in', which for €100 per person is a bit of a let down. I was surprised, given all the positive reviews here, and the staff were nice enough, just not really interested in what we were doing. Perhaps they were having an off day.

Everything started with fantastic Konstantina, who made all communication, booking and admin flawlessly easy! Once arrived to Paradise Dive Center you immediately feel at home. All instructors are competent, friendly and follow protocol by the book. A little banter have not hurt anyone yet:) I was there to complete my practice course of Open Water Diver and Vangelis made it possible with ease and care. His knowledge, kindness, patience and humour is out of this world! We made 5 dives in the course of 3 days and as learning curve was steep with Vangelis’ guidance it felt like one continuous rite of passage. Knowledge and confidence grew every minute. Many thanks to everyone at Paradise Dive Center! (I was not paid in any shape or form for this review)
