We had both younger children and teenage children in the group. The rocky terrain is well worth the effort to see the amazing remains of some valuable theological history. The grounds are well preserved. There is a simple religious souvenir/book store as well. The fee...More

The monastery is a treasure for its architecturally interesting beautiful grounds and views of the surrounding area. It also serves as a museum of historical objects. It gives the history and honors the participants in the brave revolt against the Ottomans in 1866.

Great place for a short visit. Beautiful monastery with an amazing garden around it. There is a lot of information about the related history.

Absolutely fascinating and a great thing to do, wouldn't recommend doing this as part of a tour as we spoke to another couple who paid through the nose for it. Very enjoyable time though.

The monastery is situated as many are on a hill well away from any town, and projected an atmosphere of tragedy. The hills around have abundant caves, great guerilla terrain, and the courtyard and in particular the ancient dead tree with a bullet still embedded...More

The guidebook made it sound as though there wouldn't be that much to take up our time, but my boys loved running about the place, climbing up the various levels, and exploring the different rooms. They were also very taken with the story of the...More

We visited this monastery on a day when it was pouring with rain, nonetheless it was wonderful! Beautiful old stone buildings full of history and the most gorgeous garden full of roses and greenery. Well worth it.

Hello, I would hate to cause offence and also don't want a wasted trip, so please could you let me know what the dress code for men and women is for visiting the Monastrey?

Just normal casual clothing, would suggest not really short shorts, and in any case, in the hot sun it is good idea to cover upper arms and knees/thighs!!
How do we get there using public transport.
