Arkadi is a place of great tragedy for Greek people. Nowadays it's a quiet monastery, but still very important one. Its history shows - it is very beautiful and very photogenic despite all the damage it suffered during the ages.

We had 5 nights in Rethymon old town and loved wandering around the maze of narrow lanes and by the Venetian Harbour. Many excellent modestly priced restaurants, people very friendly.

The drive from Rethymno town, as well as the destination, offer lovely views, and the story of resistance against the Ottoman regime adds a lot of interest to the visit.

Just normal casual clothing, would suggest not really short shorts, and in any case, in the hot sun it is good idea to cover upper arms and knees/thighs!!
