The mosque is easy to locate in a square in the old town, it was under renovation when we visited so access was denied, but the exterior is very photogenic, and the square has a nice fountain and bandstand, It is not hard to imagine how it stood in its heyday.
There is a local tavern in the square and it is nice to stop have a drink and take in the view.

This charming mosque is easy to find after following the winding streets of Ierapetra's old town. Step back into another time and age in Europe's southern most town.

Unfortunately Turkish Mosque is not renovated so what you can see is just building exterior. Maybe one day it will change?

The Lerapetra Mosque is not far from the harbour and is interesting in its own way but somewhat run down and in need of a bit of TLC. Having said that it is a good example of a small mosque. There is a reasonably large square in front of the Mosque leaving plenty of space for photos. There is also a nice taverna there to have a drink at whie you st and admire the building.

The Turkish Mosque, or Tzami as locals call it, is remarkably preserved until today and contribute to the creation of a unique atmosphere in this old neighborhood in the Old city of Ierapetra.Check the calendar of city events and do not miss visiting when hosting an art exhibition! On September 27th each year the Municipality of Ierapetra celebrates the World Tourism Day, and there are happenings taking place at Tzami Square.

We find our way to Tzami Square, close to the centre of town to find the Turkish Mosque. The guide books tell us that the minaret is "incomplete" so we are therefore pleased to find that there is still a substantial part of it standing, but disappointed that due to renovation work, the mosque itself is currently closed to visitors. A peer through the dusty windows shows what appears to be a virtually empty shell, which is a shame.

The mosque dates from the 19th century and had been converted to a church following the Turks' withdrawal from Crete. It fell into disrepair during this time, and most of the interior had rotted away. The renovations are ongpoing and by all accounts, have been in progress for some time, so maybe when we next return to Ierapetra, it will be open to the public?

This beautiful building is close to the town center but is located in a quiet square with a friendly taverna where you can sit and enjoy the view. We didn`t eat here but will next time.

The Turkish mosque from Ierapetra is beautiful, makes you think at the past. It is situated in a large square in the middle of a quiet central neighbourhood with tiny streets and plants coming out from people's opened doors. We could not visit the interior(although we saw that there are celebrations of special days that are held inside).

The mosque is located in a square in the back streets of Ierapetra. It's not especially lovely or unusual, just a site to see along the way. Worth a walk by.
