This was a fantastic day. From start to finish we were looked after felt relaxed from the word go. Our teenagers ( 14 yr old boy, 15 yr old girl) were fully entertained with the snorkelling, paddle boarding and jumping from the beautiful yaght into the crystal clear Aegean Sea. Us adults were suitably relaxed snorkelling, drinking wine and enjoying our hosts company. It was the perfect way to spend a day amongst this global pandemic and at all times safety was the top priority. Thank you!

My wife and I went for a full day sail to Dia island. Stratos and his crew very professional, their service was flawless. Boat was beautiful. It was on the windy side, so we had a terrific sail, both there and back. We spent the day anchored in a sheltered bay on Dia, did a lot of snorkeling. The lunch we were served was delicious. Overall, a top notch outfit, very professionally run, but also very friendly and personable.

Me and my family of 6 (2 parents, 2 teenagers, 2 kids aged 7 g 9) + an extra teenager, went to Dia Island for an entire day - and what a day.
Stratos and hostess were very friendly and shared a lot of knowledge about the sea, Minoan culture, and Greek politics etc which we were interested in.
We stopped by 2 places in Dia island and went snorkeling and Stratos transported us onto Dia island for a walk around the small church there.
A good lunch was served with pasta and Greek salad plus a delicious plate of Greek sweets and fruits. Along the entire trip drinks where available, white wine, beer, local soft drinks, etc.
This was one of the days on Crete I will remember forever I believe. Definitely recommend it.

We booked the largest boat, the Alkyone, for an 8-hour day trip from Heraklion port to Dia island. Our captain was Stratos with Mano as first mate, and both of them were extremely welcoming, pleasant to converse with, and offered fantastic service.
We boarded the boat at 10, spent about one hour sailing to Dia island, and then dropped anchor there for the majority of the day. The water is crystal clear in the bays there, and we could see 30+ meters down to the bottom. We lounged on the deck before / after lunch, and then went snorkeling along the shore, where there are shards of pottery from who knows when. Stratos took the parents traveling with us to the beach, where they could walk up to a small chapel and fishermen's hut on the top of the hill overlooking the bay. We probably pulled up anchor around 16:00 and spent the last hour cruising back to Heraklion port.
The food and drink on board was also very good. The fare included coffees & teas for breakfast (including frappés), a seafood lunch, fruit dessert, white wine, and raki. Iced coffee was a welcome surprise as the sun was already hot by the time we got on the boat at 10am. The lunch was a huge amount of pasta topped with fruits de mer - mussels, shrimps, calamari, at least - along with a Greek salad. Dessert was a mountain of freshly-cut fruit topped with Greek yogurt, drizzled with honey and dark cherries. They offered us white wine throughout the day and raki followed the meal.
I would definitely recommend. It was a bit expensive but very fairly priced; this was one of the most expensive things we did on our trip in Greece but, especially for four people, it was worth every penny!

Hired a boat with very friendly captain and first mate who took us as a group of 8 on a day trip from Heraklion to Dia. We visited two sites to explore and snorkel in the crystal clear waters that were scattered with ancient pottery and ship wrecks (not to mention the fish!). It was utterly beautiful and peaceful. They provided simple, delicious and beautifully prepared snacks and we could have ordered a full meal if we had wanted. They were very responsive to our particular interests (seeing all the archaeological detritus on the sea floor!) and made us feel very safe and well-cared for. Not at all touristy or gimmicky, just authentic!

Myself and my boyfriend took a private trip to Dia Island with Thalasail. The trip itself was absolutely wonderful from start to finish. We were given lots of history about Crete and Dia Island - fantastic!
Neither of us had really sailed before and Stratos was brilliant at putting us at ease and entertaining us!
We had a great time once we arrived at Dia Island: jumping in to the sea, enjoying Cretan wine and food, chattering away with Stratos and hostess.
The final moment of perfection was sailing back to Heraklion port while watching the sunset! We even got to see an almost neon pink sun which everyone was amazed by!
I would definitely use Thalasail again - they were amazing value for money, incredibly friendly and unbelievably knowledgable. Great communications before the trip as well!

My friend and I decided last minute to try to find a sailing trip in Heraklion and asked around for a few quotes. Thalasail gave us a really prompt response and a great price considering it was the day before we wanted to set sail. It was only the two of us aboard from about 10am-5pm (an all day trip to Dia Island). It was a little windy the day we went out, but overall the weather was sunny and beautiful. Stratos was very helpful setting everything up and very relaxed as we set sail. With an all day trip, you sail out to the island, stop for swimming and lunch (or reading/ lounging, whatever you want to do) and then you can sail around a little bit more or visit another area for more swimming, then head back. They make a huge lunch with a lot of different options and all sorts of drinks are readily available. All of that is included in the price, too.
For those people that aren't strong swimmers, you should know that Dia island is a nature preserve, so boats aren't allowed to dock there. There are a few buoys for mooring and the ship can drop anchor, but ultimately, you'll be swimming from the boat. They only stop where the water is calm, so it's not a huge deal, but just know that you won't be docking and going to a beach to hang out - all swimming is off the boat. We took advantage of the snorkels and swam around for a while. The water is very cold in May, but your body adjusts.
Two unfortunate things happened while we were out - one, I was walking on a rocky part of the ocean floor and cracked my big toenail; two, my friend didn't quite secure her belongings and her phone and her sun hat went flying into the sea after a large gust of wind. Stratos patched me up with no problem and he actually dived in and spent a very long time looking for my friend's belongings (and managed to retrieve the hat! The phone was lost to the sea :( )but even with those things, the setting was so beautiful, Stratos and Vasilis were so great, that it was still a really worthwhile, amazing trip. Highly recommend!!

We enjoyed every minute of our half day visit to Dia island. My 2 teenage kids loved this activity and they enjoyed paddle boarding and swimming in the beautiful blue water. The crew were amazing and everything went smoothly.

Hi, Can you tell me how much the day trip cost please? your review sounds like you had a great time, and it's something I'd like to do, but I'm on a tight budget!
Written October 1, 2017
I would reach out to Thalasail to confirm pricing has not changed, but we were offered three tiers of prices depending on (1) the size of the boat and (2) whether lunch is included. I'm not sure if the lunch prices vary depending on the number of people or not, but everything we were quoted was for a party of four. For the 37' yacht, EUR 280-360; for the 43', EUR 350-430; and for the 46' Alkyone that we chose, EUR 450 included full lunch. Obviously this is before tips for the two-person crew. I hope this is useful.
