This is such a lovely monastery. The drive up to it is lovely with amazing views. The scenery around the monastery is breathtaking. There is a lovely museum with great byzantine icon pantings. there is a lovely smell everywhere of herbs and flowers. The buildings are wonderful and full of history and there is also a very nice shop. Being high up the mountain the views are very special everywhere you look

We went to the Monastery which was OK but not exciting after you have been to Knossos and Lasithi. the view was terrific from the courtyard and the church was interesting for its simplicity

this may be a beautiful monastry and it is situated on a beautiful spot along the road to the Lassithi plateau, but the nons are terrible!! they don't have anything of the hospitality I eperienced every where in Crete, they only thing they want is the money of the visitors!

Its a really small monastery where you can visit the old church with paintings from the 14th century, a little museum with beautiful artefacts from the past and you have a gorgeous view over the area. It's not that much to see thats true but its impressive, relaxing, it was a stop with the bus tour and I was glad that the guide could translate so I had the chance to talk a little with a nun.
I did buy some olive oil made from them and it's soo good, should take more, and they thanked a lot for so they can keep helping the needed, it couln'd be better for all.

We visited this ite on a coach trip. Unfortunatly it was cloudy so the views were restricted. The monastary is well preserved and our guide was knowlegable on the history of the site and it's relics.

This was our first stop on a day long coach trip that included the Cave of Zeus and the Minoan Palace of Knossos. Already we were climbing up to the plateau of Lassithi, where the cave is located and already the views were spectacular.
Although this is a religious site there was no requirement for any special attention to clothing, which was just as well. The site is more than just the church; there are many other buildings, not all open to the public, but the church is definitely the jewel in the crown.
Decorated with many religious icons, it seems larger inside than it appears from the outside, though not quite to Tardis levels. Our guide explained the history and significance of the various items on display. Once outside again, we were free to explore.
From the terraces the views over the valley from which we had ascended, were amazing, and I took advantage to take many photos.
The visit is not a long one but it is one I'm glad we enjoyed. Be aware that if you want to take advantage of the toilet facilities before returning to the coach, they are outside the walls of the monastery. There is just one gents toilet and a lengthy queue soon developed!

We arrived quite late in the day, which was fine, as the last of the coaches were just leaving as we arrived. This is such an important place to visit and to see. The buildings are very beautiful and the history fascinating.

I visited this lovely little monastery which lies high in the hills East of Heraklion, you get some great views of the surrounding area. The Monastery has some interesting history, especially the mysterious icon that was stolen that kept returning back, the original is now in Rome. Inside you can see the murals and paintings from the 14th century, unfortunately they don't allow photograpy inside so you can only look. We stopped here on our way to the Psychro Cave and I guess you can't complain as it's now run by Nuns who will bless you and it's only €2 entry fee.
