As we got a recommendation from our friends to visit this outstanding winery, we have been very excited to our visit there. The winery is easily to be found in Dafnes and we have been warmly received and guided to a cool, natural harmonious and stylish tasting room. All the wines we could taste, were really good and you can smell the passion of the owner and winemaker for local varieties as well as "new varieties" in Crete like Sangiovese, Shiraz or Cabernet. Unforgettable the deep structure and impressing fruit of the Sangiovese/Cab. 2012!
People who want to taste the best wines of Crete must stop in Dafnes at Douloufakis Winery!

We were traveling the wine country south of Heraklion and stopped in Dafnes for a visit of the winery. I had not booked an appointment, which I recommend, but we were lucky to be received warmly by our hosts. Tasted several wines, and my personal favorites were Aspros Lagos (white, 100% Vidiano - which is a local variety, aged 5 months in oak barrels), and Alargo (red, 100% Syrah). I was impressed with both, and delighted with the red as I was seldom drawn to Greek reds.
I recommend you stop by the winery. You'll be pleased you did:)

This is a delightful winery. They give a brief tour of the facilities, which was interesting. I'd never seen wine being bottled before. And the tasting is only 5 euros and we got to try about 9 wines. They were very unique to our American palate and an enjoyable experience. We then bought a couple bottles as they were very well priced. The staff was welcoming and friendly.
The winery isn't very far from downtown Heraklion, but we didn't have a car and needed to take a taxi both ways. Although the taxi was fairly reasonably priced, it added quite a bit to the overall price of the day and not sure if it was worth the transportation price. But if you've got a car already, the winery is worth visiting.

It was really great experience for our family. Before coming here, we were thinking it would be fantastic adventure, but, actually, it exceeded our expectations! It is necessary to point out that we never buy wine abroad cause it's difficult to pack and carry it home. But after tasting Douloufakis wines we bought 8 bottles! 4 of them were sweet wine - we have never bought it even in our country (we didnt't like it at all), but their sweet wines are really fantastic! We are so glad that we were able to meet such cheerful and warmhearted people. If we visit Crete again, we will definitely come to visit you!

We visited the winery last month and prebooked the tasting with 5 wines. Our guide Maria was really friendly and explained a lot about cretan wine and the winery itself. As we were the only visitors that afternoon we were offered to sit outside for the tasting which was great. Wines were tasty ( i espacially liked Dafnes white and femina), worth a visit.

Really had a nice visit at Douloufakis Winery. Got a private tour of the facilities and an 8 glass tasting - even got to try some of the grapes right off of the vine.

A winery tucked away in the hills above Heraklion. A good few hours spent here being shown round the winery and then into the tasting room. Maria was our very pleasant host and was knowledgeable. Sampled 8 wines plus one which was the same grape but 20 years older (9 in total). Had to buy... unfortunately like most tourists baggage space was limited. I'm sure we'll be back again. Prices VERY reasonable - 5€ tasting and wines from 4.60€ to 20ish.

Hi Helen,
Thank you for your interest in coming to Douloufakis Winery!

Hello. Could you please tell me how to get to the winery by public transport from Malia. We are planing to visit you in our treip this september.Thank you
Written August 27, 2018
Hello Mrs Verona. You will choose the starting point from Malia to Heraklion .Unfortunately there isn't any bus line direct from Malia to Dafnes village. You have to reach the local bus station from Malia to Heraklion and then to take another bus line from Heraklion to Dafnes village.
The local bus of K.T.E.L. Heraklion-Lasithi has a route from Heraklion to Dafnes from Monday to Friday,
- at 11:00, which departures from the Bus Station "Athena"(it is located at the corner of Efesou Street and Ikarou Avenue, near the port of Heraklion, map, tel. 0030 2810 246532)
- at 13:00, which departures from the B' Bus Station, (it ia located at Machis Kritis 3 street, Chanioporta, Heraklion, map, tel. 0030 2810 255965)
There is not a convenient route from Dafnes back to Heraklion.
Nevertheless, you can get back to Heraklion if you catch the bus from a nearby village, Venerato (it is located very close to Dafnes), Monday to Friday, at 13:00, 14:45 or 16:10.
Please contact K.T.E.L. Heraklion-Lasithi directly at the above telephone numbers or get informed on its official website, in order to confirm the routes, before arranging your visit to our winery.
You can see the schedule here ktelherlas.
We will be glad to meeting you in Douloufakis Creta winnery!

We will be on a cruise in May and get to Heraklion at 8am. How do we get to the winery from there? How far away is it? Will we still have time to visit Knossos? And I saw that the wine tasting is 5euro; is there a fee for the tour, too?
Written April 6, 2018
Dear Melissa,
thank you for your message.
You can reach the winery either with taxi or with the local bus from a station near the center of Heraklion. The village of Dafnes, where the winery is located is 15 minutes away from Heraklion. The tour and the wine tasting (total fee 5 euro per person) lasts about an hour, so you will have time to visit also Knossos.
For more information you can send an email at wines@cretanwines.gr

Anyone able to tell me if there is a bus that may pass this winery, or will we require a car/taxi? We are staying in Heraklion.
Thanks!
