Read ‘The Island’ by Victoria Hislop first (a Greek friend recommended it, she said the author has portrayed the story of Spinalonga sympathetically and well). Atmospheric and interesting but I imagine it can get a bit crowded in high season.

A trip not to be missed. Spinalonga is Greece's former leper colony and was ruled over the centuries by the Venetians & Ottomans. Read Victoria Hislop's book "The Island" before visiting.

From memory the boat trip was about 15 euros from Agios Georgios and admission to the island was only a couple of euros, was a few years ago though!
