Nice views over Chania and surrounding hills from here.
This is a the resting place of Eleftherios Venizelos and of his son Sophoklis.
The statue of Spyros Kagiales in the same park refers to a legendary bravery in 1897 when Venizelos and a group of rebels had raised a Greek flag at that spot after being attacked by the Ottomans.

We had some time to kill before checking in at Chania airport so we decided to detour to view the Venizelos graves. We visited early Saturday afternoon and found the carpark very full. There was a café adjoining the carpark with a fantastic view towards Chania. It was full of Greek families enjoying leisurely lunches. Although we only wanted drinks, we were made very welcome and enjoyed the general friendliness and view. We then visited the lovely park which housed the graves and memorial, very peaceful with stunning views and we finished off our holiday enjoying the peace and quiet and surroundings before our departure. Recommended.

Visited place same day with Koukouvagia. You can see the tombs of both great politicians father and son Venizelos. Very relaxing place with fantastic view to Chania city and port.
We had a nice walk in the area and enjoy the amazing view. A perfect place to walk a bit prior enjoying deserts in Koukouvagia!

This is a beautiful spot high above the city of Chania. It gives you a good chance to admire the view and look at the grave sight of Venizelos and his son. Plus there is also a little church and on some Sundays there will be a baptism.

We went here as part of a coach trip. It’s really interesting for lots of reasons. 1. There is an amazing view of Chania; a great photo opportunity 2. Eleftherios Venizelos, a leader and eight times prime minister is buried there 3. Spiros Kagialedakis, the human flagpole has a statue dedicated to him (see photos). 4. It is a really peaceful spot. If you’re interested in the history of Crete, this is an important place to come, but only as part of a journey as you only need to be there for about half an hour

Eleutherios and Sofoklis Venizelos, father and son, they were both prime ministers of Greece. Their tombs are situated up in a hill, with (one of) the best views above the city. It worths a visit when the sun sets and if the sky is clear, you can enjoy the beautiful colours!

.....but a visit here is well rewarded by a chance to learn a bit of Greek history and to have a splendid view over the city of Chania. If you can, go up late afternoon, early evening, as the sun starts to set, and be rewarded with amazing sunset views.
Only downside is that the Greeks have a regrettable tendency to cover everything in graffiti and every moron in Chania has been here to do this.

We had limited time to take a look, as we were on the way to the airport. I’d recommend taking the opportunity to get up to the memorial area with more time to spare – there are excellent views looking down on to Chania, and the memorial itself is a fitting tribute to one of Crete and Greece’s most prominent statesmen
