This is a very beautiful building inside and out. The inside is very ornate and kept very clean. It is quite small and there fore it gets very busy. Well worth a visit though. Easy to find as it is in a main square.

Agios Nikolaos was by far the most impressive Orthodox Church I saw in Chania and I was impressed even before I went inside. The first striking feature is that this is a church with both a church bell-tower AND and minaret. This fusion of Orthodox...More

This is a church that has s long history in the town of Chaina. In a beautiful area of the old town. It's nice to see and if your lucky there may be a service going on where the locals will make you feel welcome.

Beyond the history and the priesthood, it's a great example of civilization. This almost 700 years old church maintains one of the minarets from when the church had been converted into a mosque during the Turkish/Ottoman occupation of Crete. This is a perfect example that...More

For me, the most interesting aspect of this church is its history as both a church and a mosque and the obvious manifestation of that history is the juxtaposition of a crucifix and a minaret. I don't have too many pictures of that from my...More

The church is situated at a nice square with good, simple restaurants. The interior is modest but attractive. Read about the history of the church, from church to mosque to church.
