Have been many times to Chania Town always something new to see. It’s restaurants, small shops views. My wife and myself really like the place. Have enjoyed meals here many times and the walking around the sites.

Γιαλί Τζαμί (meaning the Seaside Mosque) is located on the edge of the Venetian Harbor.
It was built by the Ottomans during the 2nd half of the 17th century.
Its cubic form is a unique sample of islamic art of Renaissance.
Today it hosts various events and exibitions.

The old turkish mosque is a beautyful part of the old port - now an modern art gallery, and often there is entertainment for the public in the yard, behind it! I do wish more of the old, muslim history was kept visible though..

...but only from the outside. Because inside nothing reminds that this was a great Islam temple. In nowdays It is used as a exibition center and events room. Anyway, if you go to the Old Venetian Harbor of Chania, you will see it, you will probably take pictures of it, so get in to check it and -who knows- maybe you' ll get in something interesting!!

Another great piece of architecture sat in the middle of the town near the harbour.
Inside was an art exhibition.

Such a beautiful building, I'm not sure if it is open during the day, but we visited during the night it was lit up and looked so beautiful along the harbor we couldn't pass by without entering.
The architecture alone is magnificent and so wonderful to see, you can take pictures from outside, but no pictures are allowed to be taken inside.
Local artists were displaying their handcrafted goods, and different paintings and jewelry for sale.

We had a room that looked out onto the bay and seeing the mosque during the morning, afternoon or evening did not disappoint. However, never went in and not sure if it opens to the public at any time?

This really is an odd looking building at first sight, the houses on Luke Skywalker's home planet in the original Star Wars film immediately came to mind. However in getting close to it we realised that it is a former mosque which is now used as a gallery/shop for local crafts. At least it retained a calming effect on visitors. I suppose that its current use could be more inappropriate for what is actually a very nice looking structure.

I expected to go inside and see lovely mosaics and frescos. Not to be... it's run down, plain and full of market stall tables selling rubbish. Disappointing.
