We have been visiting Crete for the last twenty years but have only discovered this trip in the last three!

I have now done this trip three times with different groups of friends and would definitely do it again!

2/3 trips we have seen turtles! 💕

Reviews based on whether or not you see them are unjust as nature is unpredictable at the end of the day. You are more likely to see turtles when the water is warmer.

50% of the people below deck face inwards and can see people in the opposite hull if the boat but the fish and Turtles do go through there too!

My most recent trip was at the end of July and we were told the turtles hadn't been seen yet! But, they came, just got us 🇬🇷💕🇬🇷

The trip costs €16 which I'd happily pay for the trip and experience of seeing the fish regardless of the turtles appearing!!

I will definitely be going again!!

You have to do this tour! It’s a fantastic experience, and I can’t really describe in words how beautiful it was to see the underwater world around Agios Nikolaos. Fish, corals the sea it self. And then the last half hour I spend on top of the ship seeing churches and houses from famous Greek movies. Everything is translated in different languages so u don’t miss out on any information. The captain even let me hold the wheel of the boat for pictures :) definitely worth it that we will go again before our departure back to Germany.
For the tickets of the tour I suggest u buy them directly at the boat instead of the company’s around the town as u get offers from them directly. Just inform for times of departure and go directly to the boat for your tickets.
I hope this helps you all, where ever your from this is so worth it.
Kind regards Samantha and Argiri

Good relaxing time with teen daughters for a relatively inexpensive experience seeing the sea floor and fish.
Crew was really good with my autistic daughter...very kind to us.
Recommended event on a hot leisurely day.
(Note: the hull is air conditioned)

We had. Wonderful trip yesterday on this semi submarine. The captain Dimitri and his crew were brilliant and there was plenty of space to allow for social distancing. The 1.5 hour trip included 45 mins underwater seeing all the lovely fish and sea bed and then 45 mins along the coast. Thoroughly recommend this.

We went on the semi submarine during our stay in Agios Nikolaos. It cost 15 euro's each and the trip lasted an hour and a half. The first part of the trip was underwater and we did see lots of fish. There are 2 rows of seats in two hulls, one row facing outwards and the other facing in towards the other hull. Unfortunately we were sat in the inner row that faces the other hull. The outer row has much better views, as the fish are fed from the sides as well and the fish surround the glass windows. People with children usually get these seats and to be quite honest, after a short time, once the children have seen some fish, they are not bothered about the rest of the time! I think it would be fairer if perhaps half way through the under water part people could reverse seats so that everyone got a good view. The latter part of the trip is a nice cruise around the bay.

Really enjoyed our trip on the semi submarine, I must admit that I was slightly worried as I am a bit claustrophobic - but no problems at all. The commentary was very informative, saw some interesting fish and even saw a moray eel too - definately recommend this trip.

I want to let other tourists know about this great trip. It was recommended to us by two young women at our hotel, and I have to say it was one of the highlights of our holiday. For 15 Euros a person, you take the semi-submarine for approximately 1h50, At the beginning of the trip you go below sea level into the glass submarine viewing area, where you spend 50 minutes or so looking at the sea life in the Med. These included Mediterranean parrot fish, bream, barracudas, giant mussels and, best of all, turtles, who swam practically past our noses. The boat owners are thoroughly knowledgeable about the sea life, and explain everything in several European languages and are amusing and entertaining. After the "submarine" element, the boat carries on along the coast of Mirabello Bay, and information is given about the various luxury hotels and other buildings that can be seen from the boat. A great way to spend a couple of hours Thoroughly enjoyable.

We decided to go on a trip after seeing the boat pass out hotel a few times a day. It was such great value for €15. We were worried that it would be damp and smell strange but it was really clean and immaculately kept.

I can't believe we saw so many fish and the water was so clear. If you're in Ag Nic with a couple of hours to spare do it!

I went on the semi submarine in May 2018 during a holiday with a couple of family members. I was really excited for the semi submarine trip as I had not been on something like this since being young. Unfortunately we saw very little variety under the water. Just quite a few of the same 2 or 3 fish which gets very tiresome after 40 mins! Of course maybe we were unlucky with what we saw (or didn’t see). There was an audio tape saying about the marine life but it was so noisy down there with the engine, you could hardly hear it. I would have taken ear plugs if I knew how noisy it would be.

We were relieved to be told the second part of the trip was above board. However, we soon realised things were not going to get any better! Again an audio recording but not really saying much of interest. It seemed more like a sponsored advertisement of various holiday accommodation. “This is villa x. This is a good villa” and so on!

I feel like I would have paid not to go on this trip and really feel like we should get a refund. It didn’t feel personal at all (more just a money making exercise) or that staff had any interest in us or the sea life. I really wish I could have had something much more positive to say!

Dear Hannah,i am really sorry to say,but when i first read your review i thought that it didnt concern our boatrip but another one.I can not really believe that you only saw just a few fish as we feed every day more than 50 liters of fishfood to attract them. Our passenger daily have the chance to see infront of their eyes schools of mullets, seabreams, parrotfish, barracuda, cravel jacks, amberjacks, dusky rabbitfish, black damsels, muray eals saddled seabreams, painted combers and sometimes sea turtles(Isnt that variety of fish?).The photos on trip advisor gallery prove that.I also cannot believe that you didnt see the large field of poseidon grass or the big crack of the rock where we stop above,or the different layers of the rocks.IT IS IMPOSSIBLE AND NO TRUE.About the audio guide i can ensure you that the sound is crystal clear as it is created inside television studio and the proffesional speakers at the underwater cambin make sure that everyone hears loud and clear.Furthermore it has been created in a way that you hear the information for what you see the moment that the boat is at the right place. We are proud to guide our passenger of any age in 5 different languages perfect translated and give them the opportunity to explore the marine life.Usually we dont answer to our passenger reviews as we consider them as personal and we try to be improved through them.We answer to your review because is not in accordance with the reality of our boatrip and has huge distance from our final delivered service that much that make us wonder the true goal of your review. With respect to all our passenger who make creative and helpfull comments. Captain and crew of Creta semi-submarine

We are a family of 5: 2 adults and 3 girls ages: 11, 10 and 5. We were really looking forward to do this and we even took a whole day out of our 7 days on Crete, got on a bus and went to Agios Nikolaos to go on the semi-submarine. The warning signals were there. My email was answered after a good 2-3 days and the answer was call one day before you want to go on the boat. Also, one of the locals told us that the area was all fished out and we won't see much. But still we thought that it would be good fun for our kids. Another bad sign was that when the boat arrived from the earlier trip, none of the passengers getting off were smiling...
First of all the people running the boat are rude and don't smile at all. It seems like they don't enjoy what they do and this is probably the key to the experience we had.
As mentioned before the seating is quite poor. We were "lucky" to have our kids and one adult on the side facing outward, but even that didn't help much.
One of the crewmen asked about the languages spoken and after asking about German, English and Russian asked about Swahili, naturally some people laughed and he was on our case (seriously) scolding us as if we were children about how we would feel if we spoke Swahili and people laughed at us. I wonder if he would have given the explanations in Swahili had anyone there spoke it.
As for the trip itself, there is not much to see under water, not many fish at all and even the ones we did see obviously came for the food they were throwing out of the boat. The "explanations" were hardly audible and certainly didn't add much to the experience. Our kids were really bored after about 15 minutes (and so were we). It was also very cold, noisy and extremely uncomfortable sitting there.
The better part of the trip was when we went up on deck as the views are quite nice. When we got off the boat the crew were saying "goodbye" and "have a nice vacation" as if someone was putting a gun to their heads.
In conclusion don't waste your time (about 1 hour and 15 minutes) and money (54 Euros for our family) on this trip.
