    Don't expect a luxurious experience
We took Blue Star Ferries from Piraeus to Naxos and then from Naxos back to Piraeus. Everyone had assigned seating for our first ferry but not for our second one and I don't know why. For our first ferry trip no one was allowed to go outside on the deck... It felt a little claustrophobic for the 4 hour trip. Overall the food and drinks were overpriced of course and staff was cranky and not helpful with seating. For our ferry back to Piraeus, there was no assigned seating for economy class and they overbooked it completely. People, myself included had to sit on the floor for the 5 hour ride and the staff didn't give a damn. It was absolute chaos.

    Overcrowded
We paid for economy ticket for a transfer between Paros and Athens . A 2 hour transfer that was nothing but unpleasant. People were laying down on the seats and taking up to 4 spots while others, like me were circling to find a place to sit. People needed up laying on the floor and just all over the place . No one from the crew came around to check on this annoying issue. For us travelers , there was a sign that informed all NOT to lay down, it was completely disregarded by most.

    Piraeus to Syros (Return)
Sailed from Piraeus to Syros on the Blue Star 1 and returned on the Blue Star Paros. Both crossings were on time and without issue, the approximate three hour trip was comfortable with no issues. Boarding was well managed and our bags were stored with no issues by the boarding crew. We had a general ticket and had no problem finding a seat, the ships were busy as this was a July crossing and the holidays had started, the return crossing from Syros was a "mid trip" pickup so was quite full when we boarded, however, we still found a seat. This trip was a lot better than our previous trip on Sea Jet!!

    Great but very busy
Got the ferry from Athens to Mykonos, I recommend booking direct with blue star so not extra fees are added as there are with other websites. Really smooth sail, great ferry with reasonably priced food and drinks, however be aware that if you don’t book seats it is extremely busy so unless you get there early (we were 30 mins early and zero seats anywhere) you will need to take a chair from the stacks that are near the stairwell and sit in the corridors or outside. We luckily managed to get the last shaded spot outside under the stairs with our chairs and had a great journey. It was lovely to sail in to Syros and Tinos and see them from the ferry. Would definitely use this company again but board even earlier!

    Rhodes to Athens ferry
We had originally booked the overnight Blue Star Patmos from Rhodes to Piraeus but decided on the day to swap to the slightly earlier Blue Star Galaxy - the reason being there were fewer overnight stops therefore fewer announcements to wake us up in the middle of the night. A quick phone call and with our new ticket issued we boarded Galaxy and checked into our cabin. The crossing was relaxing. We had drinks in the bar and dined in the canteen. The ship had lots (and lots) of staff (in their blue striped waistcoats) which was handy when we needed them to tell the noisy family in the cabin next door to quieten down. 18 hours after departing, we arrived into Piraeus on time and loved watching the crew operate the rope cranks.

    Smooth sailing
After reading many negative reviews I was sceptical about sailing with blue star, but our experience was absolutely fine. We arrived about 45 minutes before the departure (ticket said to arrive an hour before) and we found a great seat in the cafe. There were still plenty of other spaces available on other decks, both inside and outside. Sailing was smooth and we departed Athens and arrived in Paros on time. Both boarding and disembarking were quick and efficient. Only negative I would say is having to pay for wifi on the ship.

    Slow wifi
We were on the Highspeed 4 from Piraeus to Naxos. The wifi was extremely slow. Almost unusable. It wasn’t from too many users though as the ship was only about 5% full. It also would have been nice to have an outside area to go to, but there wasn’t one on this ship. Other than that, it was a nice ship.

    Crew was very unfriendly
We booked the Fast Ferries from Mykonos to Naxos and Blue Star ferry from Naxos to Santorini. Not a ton of difference in terms of actual boat/ship and facilities but huge difference between crew helpfulness and friendliness. We booked business class on both ferries and I do not think it was necessary on either. Plenty of room in regular class with decent seats and food options. Both ferries are overly chaotic for boarding (compared to US ferries - I live in a state that has a large ferry system). Trying to get a crew member to direct us to the business class area was impossible on the Blue Ferry. I asked no less than 7 crew members and each of them looked right at me and ignored me. Didn't even answer just said keep moving. Eventually one crew member said "floor 7" so we found signs to elevators and finally found the business class on floor 7. The staff in the business lounge were just as bad as the other crew members. The business class bathroom was closed for cleaning so we had to go to another floor to use the restroom. A staff member decided to vacuum around our seats although there was a large area with no customers she could have started with. The waiter(?) came around when we arrived and acted like we were putting him out by ordering a drink and food. We eventually went to the other floor and purchased food since the waiter(?) basically hid from everyone. Yes, champagne problems but it does help explain the level of service this ferry company provides. This was all new to us so we didn't really know what regular class and business class meant. Either way it felt that the crew of this boat/ship felt the customers were a huge inconvenience.

    Cigarette smokers heaven
An easy and affordable way to travel around islands in Greece. However, as a non-smoker it was shocking to see every single passenger smoking on all decks outside, along with children etc. There was no way to escape the smoke, it even permeates the inside and the air seats as well. I’m all for freedom to smoke but give the rest of us (apparently the small minority) a deck without it and don’t allow children to be subjected to the smoke. I feel terrible after breathing so much of it. I also got a bite from the cloth seats in the larger boat, gross. You should be prepared for pure chaos during boarding and disembarking. Some trips were better staffed than others and that made a big difference. Store your suitcase in the garage or you’ll be lugging it down stairs when you disembark - the escalators only go up. People shove and push to get off. Pros: you can transport literally anything and no one cares. The cafe serves beer and cocktails. You can move about the ship. Restrooms were kept up during the voyage. It’s fairly lawless.

We took the Blue Star Ariadne from Piraeus to Rhodos, departure at 18:00 arriving at 11:05 the next day. It was right around the time wildfires were raging across Greece, temperatures way above 36°C. The boat left around 19:00, about an hour late.

People with Deck tickets went on board as early as 16:30 to secure lounge-like seats grouped around tables. Probably because of covid, there was only one party per group of seats so there were none free when we boarded around 17:30. People just dump their luggage or their grandma to secure the seats and it seemed quite safe. Those who didn't have seats spent the night outside on deck, where there are hard chairs and tables, and a lot of wind.

We had a regular 4 bed cabin with AC, shower, WC, and large window. It was very comfortable and clean. The shower was excellent, hot water and good pressure. No amenities apart from soap and toilet paper. Towels are provided. Sheets are clean. There is a cupboard, a TV and a desk with one chair.

With a cabin booking you have to go to reception and check-in. An attendant takes you to the cabin.

We had a look at the À La Carte restaurant but it looked expensive for the quality and wasn't very appealing so opted for the self service. Food was as expected (not good but not awful). Both restaurants open at 19:00 and close at 22:00 or 23:00.

There are three bars in the ship, all carrying the same things. Hot and cold drinks, pies savory and sweet, chips etc. Sandwiches looked a bit wilted with the heat and ran out fairly quickly. Aircon quite efficient throughout the ship. Wifi was 5€ per connection for 24 hours, to be paid for at the reception.

The Airseats in the different Lounge areas were practically empty and looked comfortable, more so than regular economy plane seats.
Some lounge areas have a large window, some don't.
Some people were sleeping on the floor with blankets but the lights seem to be on all night in the public areas.

We arrived at Rhodos Port and disembarked around 12:00 so weren't too off schedule.

Myself and my partner booked a trip from Kos to Rhodes for a 5:00AM departure. We set off from our hotel at 4:00AM in order to arrive at the port at 4:30 as per the “check in 30 minutes prior to departure” policy stated on our tickets. The ferry did not arrive at the port until after 5:30AM, and did not leave until around 6:00AM. Therefore wasting our time, to which the staff team did not seemed interested nor bothered, as they all arrived to the port later than the ferry’s original arrival time so they surely must’ve known about the delay but decided to keep it to themselves rather than inform the paying and waiting passengers.

During our extended wait at the port, a family who appeared to be of ethnic minority were also waiting for the ferry. When the staff finally arrived the first thing they did was ask to see their passports, but nobody else’s. The blatant racial profiling was denied by the staff member who gave some spiel about how there is a policy to do this. (I understand a policy checking passports, but not just the people of ethnic minorities)

I was and still am disgusted at the man who was doing the passport checking, as he seemed to think RACIALLY PROFILING was not just okay but easily justified. All in all an extremely vile experience from start to finish, Blue Star Ferries should be absolutely ashamed of themselves and the staff they employ. My review is not the first one I have seen the mention racist, lazy, unprofessional staff and I highly doubt it will be the last!

If you are going to book a ferry, I would suggest you look elsewhere rather than putting money in the pockets of these racist idiots.

We were taking a ferry from Santorini to Naxos which all in all was going well, until an employee came out telling people to get out of the business class area. I myself was sitting with my girlfriend (we are both Caucasian) when the said employee came and asked to see tickets. That is fair enough but the man did not ask for our tickets, only the two black people who were sitting there. My girlfriend and I got up and left because that is unacceptable. Later he came over to us and said we could go back in ten minutes, he just needed to get the black people out of there. I told him that was unacceptable and racist in which he just smiled and agreed, telling further stories about how other ethnicities ruin the trip. Sorry there still are people like this in 2022

This summer we traveled a lot, visiting 18 islands of the east Aegean. We had the car with us so we had mostly to take the big ship. Blue star ferries had almost for all islands a connection and the prices were really good.
If you travel once you can make online a seasmiles card and get 40% off for the car as well 20% for the passenger ticket.

They were always punctual and the staff is maybe not always civilized to the guests but they are effective.

So all in all we were very satisfied and choose it again if possible.

Nice voyage! Calms seas for April 7th from Athens to Santorini on Blue Star 1. Took the slow boat to make sure we arrive in Santorini for our hotel reservation(non-refundable) because seajets has a reputation to cancel for bad weather. We Will take seajets back to Athens to save time but Overall a great experience in business class(well worth the extra 30euros for peace and quiet in an area that is not packed to the rafters with people and kids screaming. Excellent service from the waiter in business class and all of the crew are polite, friendly and helpful; Maybe because it’s the shoulder season and it’s not the sticky hot summer months I’ve saw in the reviews on here where the crew is fed up with the tourists. Cell signal is strong with 95% of the time we’re connected with t-mobile, able to watch videos the whole time with a few pauses from no signal. It’s a long journey (8hours) leaving at 7:30am and arriving at 3:30pm in Santorini but it’s very comfortable and we will definitely be in Santorini even though this day has calm water so no regrets even though seajets would of been faster.

Our ferry was cancelled due to wind, which I understand. The problem is Blue Star gave no notice of cancellation until we arrived at the port. Their website was not even updated until over 2 hours after the ferry was scheduled to leave. You are taking a complete risk by booking with them. I’d highly recommend just booking a flight which is 3+ hours faster and similar in cost.

The paid wifi is a joke. I paid for the cheap option and the expensive option to compare. Both of them wouldn’t let me use Instagram, send messages on WhatsApp, nothing. Could browse the internet at slow speeds and that’s about it. I wasn’t able to do any work or have my business zoom call.

Oh and my itinerary was from Athens to Mykonos. It was not evident on my ticket or anywhere readily present that the boat would only be stopping there for a few minutes and continuing onto a new destination.

Now I’m stuck on this boat, made the mistake of telling them what happened so that they could charge me and the other people who were in the same boat (literally and figuratively) to go to the next stop, get off, wait 3 hours and catch the same boat as it heads back towards Athens by way of Mykonos.

They told us that this happens all the time, every day….. maybe they should do something about it if it’s clearly a recurring problem? Nope! If I didn’t have my laptop with me I would have jumped ship and swam as soon as I saw them pulling the drawbridge back up.

Can’t hear any of the announcements outside with the wind (economy seating). Make sure you arrive early so you can snag a seat that won’t be in the sun for 50% of the ride.

Well, at least the wifi is working enough for me to write this review. So here’s to you Blue Star ferries!

Blue Star Naxos: Business class, the most expensive ticket you can get, consists exclusively of crammed and hideously uncomfortable café-style tables & chairs and some benches with fixed divisions (so you can’t lie down) that are even more uncomfortable than the chairs, impossible as that sounds. Coach class has airplane-style seats, ten times more comfortable. This has to be a world first, where the most expensive seats are so much worse than the cheaper ones. Avoid.

We travelled twice with Blue Star Ferries, and it was not really organized. We could not buy tickets with seats, because their number was limited, and unfortunately, we could sit down only to the floor (all the places in the restaurants were occupied, and the whole ship was waving heavily). Firstly, it was ok.
Secondly, we departed around midnight from Paros to Pireus. There was definitely no place for sitting. The people were arguing and getting more and more tired because of the lack of place and noise. At the end some people went to the corridor of the cabins and slept on the floor, or at the bars, or other places, where they found 2 free m2. The lucky ones could find free chars, so they put together them, and tried to sleep.
It is not a convenient way of traveling + it could be dangerous in case of a panic: hundreds of people sleeping and sitting in the narrow corridor..

Terrible service on the 3rd July 2023. People were treated like cattle, economy tickets oversold, and there were no seating areas or any chairs available. We had tickets that were priced at €49 per person, yet we were not allowed to sit on an airport type chair. We were treated like criminals, forced to go to the cashier's office to pay extra. Repeated questions to the staff on how much the upgrade would cost remained unanswered!!!

Eventually, following queuing in front of the cashier I was told it would be €5 extra per person...what a disgrace for the €5 extra to treat people like animals and not offer seats to people that needed most, like children and elderly passengers.
We were told that we could not have allocated seats and the booking was made centrally.
If Greeks wanted to continue being competitive in tourism, they must upgrade the services...
