DO NOT TAKE A TAXI FROM PEIRAEUS PORT. There are many drivers there where they will try to rip you off by taking advantage of the situation that people are exhausted from their travel. These guys are capable of making you pay even 10 euros for 1 km and if you dare to express your complain they are going to be extremely rude to you. They are also very unprofessional as i have seen drivers sleeping inside their cars (which means that they are not in a situation of driving), being on their phones or smoking while driving. Peiraeus port haw many buses and even metro to take you everywhere, so no matter how far you its definitely better than having such an experience. This is the opinion of a local.

They try and charge you 25$ euro to get to the parliament. The cost via the meter is approximately 12 euro. Make certain to negotiate the fate ahead of time and I recommend you don't pay more then 15 euros.

When you leave the cruise ship you will see numerous taxi's lined up touting for business, need to do some haggling to agree a price anywhere between 90-120 euros. Most tours last anywhere between 4-6 hours. You do not pay the taxi driver until the end of the tour. The taxi we agreed on was very good, 2 adults 2 teenage children, the taxi had free wifi which teenages took advantage of. The taxi driver does not just drive you around he acted as a tour guide, he had guide books and gave advice of what to look for when visiting the sites, we were not pressured into shopping areas and the driver was interested in what we wanted to see. He advised us that if we were not happy with the service he provided then we could pay him less than what we had agreed. Cold water was provided following the visit to the Acropolis. When visiting the attractions the driver does not go with you or provide the tickets,(you pay for them separately) he gives you his phone number and you ring either if you have a problem or when you finished the tour of the attaction. This method of doing a one stop tour of Athens is a good way to save money when cruising, as the day excursions provided by the cruise ships are quite expensive especially when you are traveling with a family and you tend to see exactly the same attractions.

We (2 couples with luggage) took a taxi from the cruise port in Piraeus to the Athens airport (ATH). There was a line of taxis just outside the terminal building entranced. We got a guy with a Mercedes who said he could fit all the luggage (i.e. 5 suitcases) in his trunk. He did with bungee cords holding it together. His fare meter was broken, but he quoted a price of "€60 including luggage". It might have been a little high, I'm not sure; but we took it. It was well over an hour drive to the airport. He was a good driver and spoke very good English too. FWIW, there is an airport bus (X96) that goes from Pireaus to the airport. The cost is €6 per person each way, and/or €3 for children/seniors (65 or over). The stop closest to the cruise ship terminal is about a quarter mile (or so) walk, you have to handle your own luggage (there is a luggage area on the bus), and the bus will be making a several stops along the way. The bus runs every 15 minutes to every 30 minutes depending on the time of day/night. Needles to say, the bus ride will be 20 - 30 longer than a taxi ride.

The usual group of aggressive spruikers approach us at Piraeus port after the long enough crossing by boat. I said, "no" I'll call an uber but they bickered and I brought my guard down after agreeing to €50. The driver seemed pleasant but all the while he was taking us the longest way possible. He even stopped at Spata and stated this was it as he pointed to a old, shabby building , nowhere near water. After all my address was beachfront! Finally, after a long and unnecessary drive, we arrived and because I couldn't check my wifi phone, he started begging for more money because of the length of drive. I asked my teen for a few extra euro which he happily took. At the beachfront site I checked the distance and fare and found he deliberately went the long way and took 20 euro more than the fare should have been. I felt tired and annoyed because I tell my kids there are cheats and at least with ubertaxi the journey is kept on file and the route noted for dispute but these rogue taxi drivers just scam. They're not all the same but once bitten - yes, bitter!
