From Singapore, we are a family of six (two adults, four children ages 6 to 14), and we have a special interest in ancient and medieval military history. We booked a private tour so we could travel at our own pace and customise the places to visit.
Ancient Greece Tours made full use of the 8 days we had to plan a very comprehensive tour, covering the City of Athens, Mycanae, Corinth, Nafplio, Isthmus Canal, Menomvasia, Mystras, Olympia, Delphi, Meteora and more. Specially significant were the ancient battlefields of Thermopylae and unforgettable Plataea. Plataea was not a designated tourist attraction and completely without signage, but we made it, in the dark!
There was something for everyone, the children saw places written about in books like Ulysses and the Illiad, and we adults experienced places of great historical importance.
Tas, our driver/guide, has a good knowledge on Greek history stretching from bronze age to modern times. He gave clear explanations about the sites we visited, and continued to have many lively conversations discussing geo-politics and history with us. We also greatly appreciate the great care he took when he drove us across the long distances we covered on this road trip.
Ancient Greece Tours also took charge of booking our accommodation. The boutique hotels we stayed in were tasteful, clean, well kept, affordable with great family rooms suitable for our large family.
