The area
Address
Neighborhood: Thissio / Makriyanni
Named after the well-preserved Thission (ancient temple of Hephaestus), Thissio is blessed with a small wooded park and some less frenetic streets that offer numerous quieter places to stay and eat. Largely pedestrianized Apostolou Pavlou Street runs between the Acropolis and forested Filopappou Hill, well worth climbing for more great panoramas, until it merges with Dionysiou Areopagitou Street. This leads to the up-and-coming area of Makriyanni, whose centerpiece is the magnificent new Acropolis Museum. Opposite the museum is the entrance to the southern slopes of the Acropolis, while the eponymous metro station nearby is at the top of Makriyanni Street, another strip of touristic cafés and restaurants.

We went in here for Information but were not greeted even though the place was empty. Rather than stand around we just left to figure it out on our own.

My son and I went to the information centre after reading the two terrible reviews just to see how bad it could be!
Man were we surprised
There was a short wait then we had a most helpful man spend 10 minutes explaining all the various sites, how to get there, how much, and his personal views on what to do and not to do. He was exceptional polite and helpful.

Maybe things have changed or we just got lucky but the other employees also seemed to be helpful with the other visitors.
Haters are going to hate but this is a government tourist office not the Four Seasons hotel. Not sure what they were expecting but it was great for us.

A lovely extremely knowledgeable lady.
Helped plan our 3 days in Athens
She knew this City inside out.
Gave us free maps with marked destinations on them.
Couldn't ask for more

Despite the previous negative reviews, being a traditionalist I decided to pop in and gather some information and leaflets for our vacation.

I have to say, it was an unpleasant and wasted journey. They could not have found four more unwelcoming, disinterested, unhelpful people. (Waste of government funding) they may as well shut the office as they are definitely not helping Greek tourism.

Save yourself a wasted trip, there are no leaflets, guides, or pamphlets. We were begrudging given a map between 5 and told we should check travel agents for information.

During our 5 days visit of Athens were we going to Athens tourist center to ask for a good map of the city. As it was on the 3rd day the not friendly staff told us that we are not enough time in Athens and that he cannot give us a colour map - because he has just a few. He gave us a paper ( black & white ) with written streets without demarcation - a google map is thousand times transparenter. I would expect other behaviour because of the current situation in Greece (like anywhere else in the world).

I never leave bad reviews because i always prefer to see the positive side but i never been treated that bad just for asking a question to someone who s job is to inform tourist. I just asked about how long it takes to to visit the acropolis his answer was in a really "you are bothering" attitude that it depends on me so i ask him again like an estimated to see if it was ok to go around 6pm or it was to late and things gets worst he got really upset and star telling me in a terrible way that he has a problem in his leg and for him it takes an hour, so of course i told him im just asking ypu because you suppose to inform me, so i try to talk to the lady besides the guy(big impolite guy) and she totally ignore me.So i left not only with no information but with a terrible experience. I recommend you to ask info at the acropolis ticket office that they were super nice and helpfull!

When we visited there was one male behind the desk, who we found relatively unhelpful. There were none of the usual brochures or maps that one would expect to be available. Could do better!

The tourist information was not busy,so the lady took plenty of time to answer all our questions. She gave us very useful maps and bus plans and explained everything we wanted to know in detail. The information we got there (including bus schedules, tips about fees, etc.) could not be found on the Internet, so we were very grateful.
Definitely to be recommended to go there at the beginning of your stay.

While in Athens I visited the information center in order to find out some more information about thermal springs which was in my interest.

They had no brochures and unfortunately very unprofessional and totally unpleasant.

Those two people (especially the lady) should not be in such a place. Zero friendliness, their help is VERY general and they talk trash behind peoples backs!

While i was there, there was a group of 3 girls and an older couple (dutch probably) coming in and in both occasions their "help" felt like really unpleasant !

I hope this will help people from avoiding them and especially the Greek Tourism Organization should DO SOMETHING ABOUT IT !

P.S I have never visited such a bad Tourist Info Centre.
