Great to visit the home of the modern Olympics. The stadium is made from marble get the audio guide to explain everything. Got a great museum about the Olympics since 1896.

I really enjoyed to see the theather and I found myself imagining how the Olimpic games were done in the past. I recommend you to get the audioguide - it shows you architetonic details and try to recriate the atmosphere of the old times. All made by marble, it is a beautiful place to do if you are into sports.

Hard to believe that this place is made out of all marble. The workmanship is beautiful. Worth a quick stop.

Today we saw a production of Tchaikovsky's Nutcracker Ballet at the Olympia Theater performed by the Greek National Opera Ballet. It was amazing and touching. Aswell the dancers and the orchestra.

We were amazed how many sites there are to see in Athens, for us to tick alot of the sites off we joined a free walking tour. On day one, after 3 hours of cruising around we covered heaps of ground, this one was good to see for us as it was the site of the first modern olympics, you... More

One can hardly imagine, that such a country, facing such financial problems, can still have such an Opera house. There is no glamour, but there is Quality over there!!!

Staying in Syntagma

Neighborhood Profile
Perhaps the best place to get your bearings is Syntagma Square, crowned by the imposing Parliament building on its upper side and surrounded by other large structures, such as the exclusive Hotel Grande Bretagne. The grand avenues that lead towards Omonia are also full of massive Neoclassical edifices like the Numismatic Museum and those around smaller Platia Kolokotroni. Here you will find lots of travel agents, bookshops and fashion shops, especially on Ermou Street. Just south of Syntagma Square, you can take a breather in the lush National Gardens, which extend into the grounds of the Zappeio palace and beyond to the ancient Temple of Olympian Zeus.
