Took a last min walking tour booking with Eleni and it was the best way to get an introduction to the city of Athens.
Eleni gave a tour of the city starting with a pretty thorough run through of things in the national garden of Athens; walking through the history of Greece from the Roman empire, Ottoman empire, various kingships and eventually becoming a republic of its own.
It was enriched with little bits of trivia such as the story of marathona (where marathons got its namesake from) and the stories behind the Olympics and the various significance of the ceremonies in it.
The tour wrapped up with some recommendations on what to see and how to get the best value for money while visiting sites like the Acropolis and other archaeological sites. And of course, the view of Athens from a high-up viewpoint in the hills.
Will definitely recommend this walking tour for anyone who has short time in Athens or if you're clueless on how to start exploring Athens - this will give you an introduction and lead you in a direction to explore the city and its sight in a more time-efficient way.
It was a 2.5hour tour which didn't feel any longer than 30mins. (It was that good)

Brilliant overview tour of Athens, seeing many of the key sights in the city with an incredibly knowledgeable guide who was very willing to answer all of our questions! Dionysis was really friendly, funny and full of information. Tour lasted just over three hours, but overall couldn’t recommend this tour more, as especially if you are only in Athens for a limited time, it really helps give you a proper feel of what at times can feel like a big city. Thanks Dionysis!!

To be clear, this is advertised as a free walking tour, but for what you get, it should not be free. Please tip your tour guide well.
This IS a walking tour. Have good shoes and be ready to walk to different locations, cross the street, and learn a lot.
You need to RSVP in advance. We did it just the day before and they were ready for us. They split us up roughly into groups of 8 to 10 (based on how many registrants and the parties themselves). The tour was in English, but is also offered in Spanish. Our guide was Stefan and it was immediately apparent that he is in love with the city and took on this gig to make a bit of side cash and share his enthusiasm.
Tour went about 2.5 hours long. It does not include entering any sites that require an entrance fee (remember that this is offered with no set rate and based purely on what you are willing to pay).
Don't be afraid to ask your guide about food and hang out recommendations. They are very knowledgeable. We ended the tour at a restaurant Stefan recommended for its authentic Greek dishes and is a favorite of locals called Trattoria. It's an Italian name, but the menu is quite Greek.

My husband and I did the 2 PM free walking tour of Athens on Saturday October 8th 2022 with Athena. She is a native resident of Athens named after her grandmother, who is also Athena! (Very Greek, to name children after grandparents!) As a native Athens resident, she was incredibly knowledgeable of Greek culture, history, and also about the city of Athens and all its landmarks. Athena was energetic, loud enough for everyone to hear, and full of fun facts and games to keep everyone engaged. The group was small enough (about 20 people) that everyone got some individual time with her for their own questions and curiosities. Athena was mindful to keep everyone in the shade during stops and together while walking which is no easy task for the busiest streets in the city. She had recommendations for day trips outside of the city, which traditional foods to try, and how to get the most out of any trip to Greece. I recommend her most highly as a guide and the company too for doing a great job on the content and organization.

This was the best way to see the city and understand the culture and the little fun facts. Our guide is Jonathan, and he was amazing!! He has many stories from the archeological sites to Greek mythology, you name them!
The tour took close to 3 hours, and we had the evening tour at 5 pm, catching the changing of guard and beautiful sunset while soaking up the city vibes. Love it and and only regret is we didn’t do this first in Athens to better plan our days here. Strongly recommend :)

I would recommend this tour - I had only one full day in Athens and was able to book a spot on the free tour a few days before I was in town. Our guide, Eleni, showed us around to archaeological sites and other notable spots around the city and always found us shaded spots to stand while she explained the sites. The tour helped me get a grasp on the layout of Athens and gave views of the Acropolis and Roman Agora. Eleni told us how to visit the Acropolis, the Ancient Agora and assorted museums in Athens so we didn't have to spend time figuring all that out ourselves. Would recommend for someone's first or only day in Athens - you tip what you feel is deserved at the end of the tour and can book a spot online. They also offer the tour in Spanish. Eleni also helped us with some logistical tips on getting to the Athens airport which saved us a lot of money on a cab!

Walking tour was interesting and informative. Or guide, Mike, expertly entertained while answering our questions on the way. A very experienced guide who was able to control the small group and engaging everyone at the same time (very interested skill). His tips on main attractions are legendary and extremely helpful, especially for those on a short stay in Athens. Keep up the great work!

Enjoyed this tour thoroughly with Athena! She was fun, knowledgeable and made our experience so enjoyable! There were so many interesting stories she shared. The walk was manageable too as she stops every few minutes to share something. Really recommend this for travellers to have some appreciation of the city before you spend more time on the places you are interested in.

I am very keen on taking guided tours and free walking tours on every new adventure and 98% the experience is amazing, however, my partner and I took this guided tour with Lisandro yesterday and felt rather disappointed.
The itinerary looks very promising on the website and it had little-to-nothing to do with what we did, we basically just walked up and down with hardly a consistent explanation of what we were doing.
We mostly visited underground streets where we can have a drink at night and shop avenues, and mind you, I already know my way to Zara. It was 90% walking and 10% talking - and most of the talking was to recommend we bought the combined ticket to the Acropolis, no anecdotes or anything unless you asked him specifically.
We also went all the way down from the Aeropagus, but not using the staircase...we went down to where the train station is (lol?) on the other side, climbing the rocks! I found it very risky taking into account how slippery those rocks are, and I felt as if I was a sheep following the shepherd, I do not think my mum would have made it had she come.
We arrived at Syntagma 5 mins before the change of guards and he did not even stop for us to see it. I mean, since we are already there and it only takes 10 minutes, why the need to hang around another hour to view it when there are so many places you need to visit as well.
And last but not least, when asked about recommendations to eat he had no clue, he literally told us we could perhaps follow him on his way to the tube station and he could point out some restaurants on that area, very useful, looking forward to having lunch with views to the tube station. On a positive side, he did give us a brief introduction to traditional Greek food and what to look for.
Do not get me wrong, he is a very nice guy and I have been in Athens three days, more than happily doing an average of 20 km a day going everywhere to not miss a thing. I appreciate and value he had us walking under the heavy heavy sun for three hours all over the place (and obviously gave him my contribution after the tour ended) but I truly believe it was not worth the time.

Dear Guest/s,
We thank you for your feedback!
We are Athens Free Tour the pioneers of free orientation walks in Greece, one of Athens top activities and pride ourselves on consistently delivering 5 Star results for each and every visitor.
We as a team from time to time must source new team members that fits our proven track record, delivering the most insightful, passionate walking experience in all Greece.
It is a tall order and unfortunately not all make it, we do offer all new volunteers an interactive, intensive training programme then slowly introduce them to small groups, this is where we truly see a personality shine with a love for what they do.
We feel sad for this young man, it's really not easy for everyone to be that Extra Ordinary Tour Leader or guide, very few in fact make it with us. In this case after a consultation together he has decided that he really isn't cut out to be a top tour leader so, by mutual consent he will stop effective immediately.
We thank you for your understanding, we truly apologise that it didn't work out for you this time. On your next visit to Athens please come join us to experience what 99.9% of our guests experience, TripAdvisor 5 Star - Certificate of Excellence 2016-2020
Kind regards,
Aft-team.

The Athens free tour was brilliant. We arrived late because our flight was delayed and had to rush but had just missed the group. We emailed as we didn't have a telephone number and thought we had missed the tour but the email responses were almost instant so we were able to catch up with the group. Our tour guide was Nick, he was very friendly, knowledgeable and enthusiastic about the city. Nick gave us some great tips and advice and we visited some beautiful places and learned interesting facts and history of Athens. We had a 15minute coffee break and visited the Anafiotika houses which was an amazing experience! definitely a hidden gem in Athens that we did not know about. We finished the tour and decided to have at a lovely family restaurant recommended by Nick, the food was reasonably priced and delicious. The tour was three hours and even after a long delayed flight then rushing around to make the tour on time, it was definitely worth it! I very much recommend it as one of the first activities you do when visiting Athens.

Hi there
I see I can't book a tour on June 15 for 2.00pm. Will this time come on line closer to the date? At the moment I see you only have 10..am and 6.00pm. Is that due to the heat? Thanks!

How strenuous is this tour? While we are in our late 70's, we can move around without much problem, but we're obviously slower and we do tire more.
Also, where does the tour start and end? We will be staying near Sytagma.
Thank you
