Side-by-side neighborhoods Psirri and Gazi provide
some of the city’s prime nightlife. The almost
claustrophobic streets of Psirri feature an
interesting blend of original small businesses with
the restaurants, cafés and bars that have recently
sprouted up. The central artery of Agion Anargiron
Street has lively places to eat or drink. Further
west, you can visit the peaceful ancient cemetery of

Help - Day Trip to Delphi Tour Cancelled need an alternative (2 Replies)
Dear TA Delphi Experts, I need your help please. My tour to Delphi from Athens on Tuesday 21st August has been cancelled as I was the only person booked on the tour.It was with Alternative Athens. I can only travel to Delphi on that day and would like to go with a smaller tour company leaving from Athens. I don't really want to choose one of the big companies as they spend less time at the monument and the museum. But if that is my only option I will go with them as I really want...More

Tours have their minus and pluses, but why a tour? You could get the earlier public bus to Delphi and the latter back to Athens, maximising your time on the spot and you'll have flexibility to visit the museum and sites on your own pace and roam around town for a meal of your choice too. Now if a guide is a must for you, you could investigate to book one of the local ones for a couple of hours.
Request for the "Alternative Athens" tour (16 Replies)
Hi, I'm very curious if someone here could suggest a nice plan for an "alternative Athens" for one day, and the same for Pireaus? Like places where greeks are everywhere, markets, squares with coffee shops and any other authentic places..? Cheers, Buttercup

One person's "alternative" is another's "mainstream," so this is a bit risky, but I will give it a shot for Athens: - walk through the Central Market and the shops around there - that's the main market of the city, and since you mentioned markets, I would not miss that. - every day in Athens there is a farmers' market going on in the street, but it depends on the day of the week as to where it will be. Although it's hard to imagine the farmers' market as a tourist attraction, it kind of...More
Alternative Athens one day itineraries: please review (13 Replies)
Arriving Piraeus via cruise ship on a Sunday in August with teen/preteen. Port times 0900 to 1800. Which itinerary seems better, or do you have another suggestion? First alternative: 1. Metro to Thiseio station, walk to Acropolis. Assume arrival time 1000-1030; time in Acropolis 1 hour. 2. Walk to Jewish Museum of Greece (open 1000-1400) via Plaka, stopping to shop. Guess arrival time at museum 1300; departure 1400. 3. Walk to New Acropolis Museum. Return to ship via Akropoli metro...More

I like the second itenary better..it fits the ATHENS map...and it includes one more sight (change of the guards, temple of unknown soldier.... It is better to put Acropolis and Acropolis Musuem together...as you enter from Thission area and you can exit from Ancient theatre of Dionysus next to New Acropolis Museum.... going to Acropolis then to jewish museum and then to the Acropolis Museum is like repaeating the same round trip walking.... Very good itenary ; ) Jewish Museum is close to...More
