Top ways to experience nearby attractions
The area
Neighborhood: Plaka
Due to its proximity to the Acropolis, Plaka remains the area where the majority of foreign visitors stay and play. Its attractive features include small squares, some notable museums and the beautiful Mitropolis cathedral, as well as a host of places to stay, eat and drink. Its pedestrian zones make it a pleasant place to escape from the city’s notorious traffic. Adrianou and Kidathineon Streets contain a number of souvenir shops, offering classier items than you will find in the Flea Market. The most rewarding section to explore is the upper reaches towards the Acropolis itself, where many old stone houses with tiled roofs have survived. Up here you can find leafier corners and the odd quaint taverna with unobstructed views of the ancient rock.
How to get there

Incredible views of the sun setting while watching the movie.
We watched the fall of the American empire. It was a French movie but they had subtitles in English.
We sat at the top which I think is the best seats. You can hear the movie fine, the view of the sunset and Acropolis is good.
They sell food and drink which I thought it was reasonably priced.
I read it was busy but we turned up around 820ish for a the 845 session and we were fine. We didn't have to stand in a line, we got good seats and there werent many people. Gradually people came in but again, there was no line. Once movie finished there was heaps of people waiting for the later session. I think that one maybe the popular one. Personally I would go to the sunset one after having dinner.

I am not sure how someone can define their trip , by going to the movies in a foreign city, but this was very special. Probably the highlight of my trip. Sitting on the roof top of a cinema waiting for the sun to set over the ancient city, while also viewing the acropolis get brighter as the night got darker, on a beautiful summers evening.
This was really spectacular.
The movie was good too.
This cinema has food but they also allow you to bring food in from the outside shops and restaurants. While it may seem a strange thing to do in a foreign city , this is something that has to be experienced.
Definitely a must do if you go to Athens. The cinema is in the plaka area.

The outdoor experience was ruined as outdoors in Greece means everyone smokes - relentlessly! It was frankly quite gross and spoiled the experience. Smokers will love it, others will not.

Great place to watch a movie while being next to the Parthenon. I would recommend going 1 hour prior to the movie so that you can select a good spot. You can also have alcohol while watching the movie. The only downside is the fact that people can smoke so if you are unfortunate enough and you have one smoker next to you, you will bot be able to endulge the experience so much.

We found Cine Paris online when researching our trip to Greece and decided to add it as a possible option. This was the best decision we could have made. We both felt it was our best and most memorable experience in Athens. It's only 8 Euros and there is a pretty good, reasonably priced snack/refreshment stand. We chose to sit in the small balcony section with incredible views of the Acropolis hill. There was a wide mix of locals and tourists, and the place was pretty packed by the time the movie (in English) started. The guy at the box office told me they only show films in their original language and then subtitled in either Greek or English, accordingly. As the sun set, the views and ambiance just got stronger. What Cine Paris has over the other local outdoor theaters,is that it is on the roof of the building. I'm attaching some pictures to help you see how awesome this place is. Get there early, especially if you want concessions as there can be a line (and to get good seats). Great for all ages but can also be an incredibly romantic date night.

Ok, not very easy to find this spot in the maze of winding streets which is Plaka, but once you know about it, you must go- especially if you're a movie goer. To watch a movie under the stars, with the Acropolis lit on your left, in the alcove between the lower and the upper level is a treat in itself, let alone to be lucky enough to see the latest Terry Gillian- The man who killed Don Quixote! They also have a bar where you can get something to drink and the inevitable popcorn. Which brings me to the shortcomings: the noise of the popcorn machine is annoying and the sound isn't great either; sometimes it was obscured by the noise from the streets below, so we mostly had to guess the lines, since our Greek is limited to Kalimera\spera! All in all, a delightful experience!

This outdoor cinema has two levels of seating. There is a wonderful view of the Acropolis from every seat. You can buy drinks and snacks from the concession stand and they let us bring in carry-out food from outside.

I have been reading more and more about crime and 'strikes' in Athens and im worrying myself stupid really because i know it will probably be no worse than any where else in Europe. All the same, this hotel is very close to Syntagma square, if the worst was to happen is this hotel a safe place to be? Also are there safety deposit boxes in the rooms and is there a charge to use these?
