A charming little museum half way up to the hill to the Acropolis. Drop in to break the walk from Monastiraki to the Parthenon on a hot day. Like many private collections it focuses on artefacts of great aesthetic quality rather than purely historical interest...More

The museum’s collection includes...More

I found this gem strolling around the Agora area after having seen the Acropolis and Ancient Agora - entry was free due to the cultural weekend (I believe it is a paid museum). The museum is small, 20-30 minutes will cover your time here. Some...More

Tucked in between the back of the Acropolis and The Agora (closed for strike and mostly under restoration) this small museum is half closed for restoration for maybe another month. Tickets are free and what is on view is interesting if not small pieces.. I...More

While wandering the Acropolis area we inadvertently stumbled upon the small, exquisite Kanellopoulos Museum (it is on the north side). It is a museum that is filled with the collection of a wealthy Athens couple who donated it, in its entirety (complete with the mansion),...More

A wonderful two floor museum on the north edge of the Acropolis and Plaka. A large and expertly displayed treasure trove with a helpful staff and some interesting artifacts and icons housed in a 19th century mansion. There were few people on our visit and...More

Monastiraki
Monastiraki is a souvenir-hunting enclave with a

Acropolis, its network of alleys and pedestrianized
streets surround the remains of both the Greek and
Roman agoras, adding the quaint concept that this is
where the ancients also came to shop. Named after the
tiny monastery church at its center, Monastiraki
Square is a lively spot by day or night, with street
