We were lucky as the Byzantine Museum was hosting an exhibition with exhibits from Hermitage. Unique pieces from the collections of the Chars agve us a taste of what this Great Museum holds. The Byzantine Museum is small in comparison to the main museum in Europe but it is located in a nice area in the centre and it also... More

After your visit you will feel you read a small flyer about the Byzantine Empire and early Christianity. Leaving you to hunger more information and a good book. There are some interesting pieces but no real in depth knowledge that makes you more knowledgeable after your visit. The cloakroom is very minimal with only a couple off shelved for your... More

We went on Sunday, February 5th to visit part of the Hermitage Collection. The first Sunday of every month the entrance is free so there was a queue that day. I didn't visit the permanent collection because I've been to the museum many times in the past, we went only for the current exhibition. The items that are now exhibited... More

We had the opportunity to see part of the masterpieces which are temporarily in the museum brought from the hermitage museum in Saint Petersburg, Russia. We were pleasantly surprised also by the good price of the tickets. It costed us 4€ to see famous works by Rubens, Van Dyke, Delacroix and more. It is a little bit confusing because the... More

The museum is located in the Duchess of Plakentia Villa in Athens very close to Parliament and National Garden . It is indeed the one and only Museum in Athens where someone can find genuine Byzantine art in Holly Icons. Today in this museum someone can see a visiting exchibition from some unic articles of Emirtaz of Saint Petroupoli. The... More

The museum is a woderful villa, in the centre of Athens, with labyrinth rooms in various levels, where amazing relics are exhibited. More than the average museums, the Byzantine provides me power and optimism - like mother Earth provided her son Atlas- by showing good things that humanity has done, to win, to surpass and to heal the mistakes of... You simply can't go wrong here if you are intertested in Christianity, it's origin in Greece, the transition from paganism to Christianity and Byzantine art. The Madonna and Child wood panel paintings are simply amazing....a quick realization that Our Lady of Perpetual Help image is Byzantine art that originated in the Byzantine era and is venerated in the Greek Orthodox... Magnificent collection of Byzantine art. This month there was also a current exhibition of objects from Hermitage Museum of St. Petersburg. After the visit do not miss to relax at the beautiful cafe in the garden.
