Neighborhood: Psirri / Gazi
Side-by-side neighborhoods Psirri and Gazi provide some of the city’s prime nightlife. The almost claustrophobic streets of Psirri feature an interesting blend of original small businesses with the restaurants, cafés and bars that have recently sprouted up. The central artery of Agion Anargiron Street has lively places to eat or drink. Further west, you can visit the peaceful ancient cemetery of Keramikos, then cross busy Pireos Street to find yourself in Gazi. With the huge Technopolis performance and art complex converted from old gasworks at its heart, you really have to come at night to appreciate this maze of bars at its best, although a daytime stroll will allow you to admire the excellent street art.

Absolutely amazing service and treatment and the hammam was particularly incredible. My wife and I both got one at the same time and both came out very relaxed and rejuvenated Highly recommend. I vivited the place for bath and massage. The steam area is very small and when I went for massage I noticed the supervisor standing at the entrance of the room watching all the time which made me feel really uncomfortable. I could not relax and enjoy what I paid for.

A small hammam, not spotless clean. Not easy to understand what will be delivered as a session. Hammam temperature was nice. Scrubbing was 1 minute tops, more massage but almost like caressing. Not to my taste and expensive for what I got.

Visited Hammam Baths with my wife during our short stay in Athens and would thoroughly recommend. We started off by enjoying the hamman which was amazingly relaxing. We then tried the ancient massage. We were able to do this together which was great. I’ve never had a proper massage before but came out feeling incredibly relaxed.
Tea and Turkish delight at the end was the icing on the cake.

This was one of the best things we did in Athens! We were first-time Hammam visitors so didn’t know what to expect. The staff were so kind and helpful, and the Ali-Mama service we had was amazing! We have never been so clean and so relaxed! And it was also nice to cool down and relax after in the lounge with some tea and delicious Turkish delights! All in all it was a fantastic experience! We did this on our last day on Athens; we now wish we had done it on our first day AND our third day AND our last day! Just do it, you’ll love it!

Fantastic hammam experience. I've experienced hammam in Turkey, Cyprus and Greece and this one was the best yet! George was superb and so professional throughout. I've never been massaged by a man before... it was incredible. I felt wonderful afterwards, totally rejuvenated. Wish we could go back!

The facilities are brand new and nicely designed. Receptionist was pleasant. Asked if I had fine hammam before (no) but didn't really tell me what to expect. I was supplied with one-use underwear. Something like a tyvex posing strap. And a thin blanket and lead to a room and told to 'make the water how I like and sit and throw the water on myself. They come for me in half an hour'. It was a Beautiful Circular marble room but not hot or steamy enough to be a real steam bath. I had no idea really what I was supposed to do. So I filled up the pretty metal bowl with warm water and dumped it over my head about 50 times, Did some stretching and wondered what would happen next. Eventually the massager arrived and I got a massage. He scrubbed my skin a bit with a glove then soaped me
And massaged but it all felt a bit quick and superficial for 45 euros. Before I knew it it was over and he said thanks. No more than 25-30 minutes. I asked if that was it and expected some other treatments. But was offered a glass of water. So, not unplesant but really not worth the price. In Prague I could have a very good 90minute massage for that price.

We were upstairs in the dry massage room.
The room was empty after the massage. No other customers were there. My friend got her stuff from the locker, put them into the table, on the opposite of the shower, and in a five minutes time frame, the phone was gone....
The room was called a "VIP Room" !
It's was a matter of 5 minutes!!!!!
The staff was extremely rude, impatient, and not very helpful at all. Adding the fact, that they asked as to wait in the very warm lounge with our clothes or to wait in the cold outside, of course not to confuse the incoming new customers!
They said that they would check the laundry. But the phone was already switched off in a time frame of 8 minutes of realising. Find my iPhone was switched off too.
No customer would dare to steal, since there are cameras. But not in every corner.
Instead of trying us to calm down, their language was very offensive, like it was our fault. And that the staff inside works with them for years....
They called the supervisor, while so, the one on the phone told to her colleague to shut up and not give more information or advice to us. A understand a little bit of Greek and body language never lies.
It is just unbelievable that your phone got stolen in a time of 5 mins, and switched off from find my iPhone despite having a code in the phone....
I would just say, that there is opportunistic crocodile in the Hammam working, who is waiting for a chance!!!!!
They said that they r trying to help us and that they would call us, nothing so far!
I would say don't bring the Owls back to Athens, and visit proper Turkish Baths in Turkey!!!!
Even during the reservation I had to call them several times and ask them through emails. Very impatient , rude and young staff that has no patience and no smile for tourists!
The reservation part was hard, the people rude, phone got stolen, no further assistance...
Keep away!

It's funny...I'm Greek, I live in Athens but I heard of this place from an American friend visiting Athens and read about it in his travel guide so we decided to try it! The experience was amazing. We took the Ali Mama experience. The staff is very friendly. They guide you all the way if you haven't been there before. There are locker rooms where you can leave your belongings. They give you a towel and shoes to go around in there. They leave you for about 20 -25 minutes in the hammam. I advise you to pour on you, every now and then, lukewarm water in the beginning and progressively increase the water temperature. In you pour on you cold water you will feel worse! Trust me on that one!! Then they take you to a room next to the hammam and they give you initially a full body scrab, then a full body massage with thick soapbubbles and at the end a nice head massage!!! It's a very nice experience. When you finish they take you to a living room next to the hammam and they offer you tea and lukumi. You may stay there as long as you like... Finally there are all the facilities to put on body cream, to dry your hair etc.
I went there again after a while with my boyfriend and had again Ali Mama. The first time my masseur was male the second time female. If you wish for a STRONG massage make an appointment with a male masseur, if you want a more relaxing experience make an appointment with a female masseuse. Either way I'm sure you'll enjoy.
The place is very conveniently located next to Thissio metro station.
Regarding the price (45€ per person for Ali Mama) I think that it could be lower (actually it was till about a year ago)

Out of 57 TripAdvisor reviews, this is my second one-star.
I read the "must visit" review in the "Three Days in Athens" and was really looking forward to a pampering experience. I emailed and was booked for an appointment for "traditional hammam". What was not clear was "traditional" was "do it yourself". I was expecting a steam room, a scrub by a professional, and more steam followed by tea. What I got - for 25 euro - was a do-it-yourself bucket bath.
The manager argued with me, showing me that if I had clicked a link in her email, and then deciphered four or five more screen links, I would have found, in tiny print, the words (self service).
I'm not saying "never go here". I am saying that you must clarify exactly what you are getting before investing precious vacation time getting to and from this facility. When I book a spa, I never know exactly what will happen but I expect to be pampered in some way. That did not happen, which is why I found this place disappointing.

Dear friend, I have been disappointed too much that we could not offer you a beautiful experience in our hammam. I can very well understand your need and desire to have received the full treatment from our masseurs . However this is not always possible due to the unavailability of appointments . Many other friends use to choose the self service " Traditional hammam " and are completely satisfied with this alone. However this was not enough for you and are perfectly respectable. Thank you that you not suggest to people not to come to our hammam but explain exactly your dissatisfaction. I wish I had the opportunity to see you again. Best regards, Nayia Kourti.

I was negative surprised and disappointed. I tried to book a hammam therapy. I visit the place and from the moment I open the door I said Hello. The reply from the reception girl was silince. I asked her if they have availabilty, in a pretending and snobby way she replied they were fully booked and I had to find an other day. While she was speaking to me she did not Look at me a second. I asked to see the manager but she was busy. 1 year ago I have visited the place and I was treated with extra attention care from the same persons in sometimes overeacting way to care about you. One year later they have established their business and they do not care. Left and I will never go back.

We are a traditional Turkish Hammam. The main area of hammam can guest 6 to 10 people at the same time. Nudism is strictly prohibited. Our guests always wear a bathing suit and the special hammam towel we provide. We always suggest to have booked in advance so as to find the availability that works for you the best!

transfer. We 'll be happy to have you at Hammam Baths!
